Ministry Minute

After Easter

"Grant that all who have been reborn into the fellowship of Christ's body may show forth in their lives what they profess by their faith."

-           Book of Common Prayer, Collect for the 2nd Sunday of Easter

Once when I was in college I was in this bible study. I don't remember what book or what passage we were reading. Honestly I don't remember much about it except one phrase. We were talking about Christian witness, what it is like to walk the walk not just talk the talk and one of the other members of the study said, "I am humbled to think that for many of the people I know, my life will be the only Bible they ever read."

That thought stopped me. It is true that most of what people know of Christianity or even Jesus is the people they know who are Christian. That thought is both terrifying and inspirational to me. It is also timely for this week.
We spent all of lent naming our sins and turning toward God. Then came Easter Sunday that tidal wave of truth, hope and joy. We saw the empty tomb and what it means. We saw death and sin and fear destroyed. Now what?

That is actually a tough questions for the disciples. They weren't sure. They had to hide and rediscover Christ's presence within them before they went out to stake their lives based on the resurrection. The prayer above is said every year on this upcoming Sunday. It is a prayer that what we believe might infect every corner of our lives and our imagination. It is a prayer that Christ's story become our story. It is a prayer that our presence might become scripture to those who know us.

In peace,

Children's Chapel
Children's Chapel is a place for children to go worship in the traditions of our faith but in a way that's geared towards kindergarten-3rd grade. It will be held at the 10:30 service and the children will return  during the Peace.  Volunteer adults and teens lead the worship and music, and children do the rest - from reading the Psalm and Prayers of the People, to lighting candles and collecting the offertory, to running the power points. Please remember to take your children to the restroom prior to the service. See you there and be ready to have fun in Children's Chapel!
