Ministry Update - October 2017
New Private Facebook Group

We are launching a new private Facebook group that will have all of the latest NLCH news and updates. This private group will help us maintain privacy for our children and youth at NLCH. The Guatemalan accreditation board for Children's Homes has also recently requested that we and all other Christian Children's Homes do a better job in this area.
We will be phasing out the current NLCH Facebook page and it will be deleted at the end of November 2017.

In order to gain access to the new group, you will need to answer a few quick questions about how you are affiliated with NLCH. Of course, child sponsors and other supporters, team members, visitors and friends will accepted, and others will be on a case by case basis. Again, this step is to protect the privacy of the children at NLCH.

If you would like to have access, search on Facebook for "New Life Children's Home: Private" and ask to join (it is the one with the picture of NLCH). You will then have two questions to answer and you're done! If you have any trouble or need more information, please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

Defending the Orphan Conference

We were honored to participate in the first ever Latin American Conference via the Christian Alliance for Orphans (CAFO, or ACH, as it is known in Latin America). Entitled "Defending the Orphan," the event was held in Guatemala on September 9.

Participants heard speakers challenge the church to take a greater role in caring for the widow and the orphan. Workshops provided opportunities for smaller groups to look at different aspects of and methodology for caring for orphans.

Throughout Guatemala, there are an estimated 370,000 orphaned and abandoned children. Over five thousand kids are in private children's homes such as NLCH. A few are living with twenty-three foster families. There is still much to be done to care for the least of these. Pray that God will continue to prick the conscience of the church to rise up and become more involved in new initiatives for orphan care.

Several NLCH staff attended and Gladys Garcia (pictured at right) and Kendon Wheeler participated in a Forum on the Realities and Solutions for Child Protection Services.

Guatemalan Independence Celebrations

We celebrated Guatemala's Independence Day with a parade and lots of light blue and white! The New Life Christian School band also participated in the parade, and we are so proud of the hard work they have put in over the past few years.
