Presenter: Jeffrey Yuen comes directly from a Daoist lineage and trained under the Daoist priest, Yuen, learning among other healing arts, Chinese herbal medicine. Yuen was invited by NCCAOM to be among a group of prominent practitioners, to write and review questions during the development of the NCCAOM herbal exam and also served on their Finalization Committee

Program Description: Aging is a natural process and endemic with its advances are certain decline of bodily and mental functions. Rich in Chinese medical literature is the role of yang sheng – nurturing life – in its association with safeguarding, and even prolonging a healthy and fulfilling life. Attributing aging to be primarily based on the demise of jing-essence, numerous approaches have been developed and utilized within Chinese medicine and Daoism to conserve and strengthen this precious humor. By understanding the cyclical aspects of the jing-essence, a detailed survey of its physiology can be cultivated so as to optimize the health of the elders. This weekend course will examine the different approaches stemming from yang sheng practices and the various modalities that can be applied to the senior population. In addition, common geriatric conditions will be discussed, along with treatment strategies to address these concerns – including coronary and cerebral diseases, dementia, urinary issues, bone-related problems, and contending with mortality.
