June 2018
Priests' Retreat for 350 Priests
Deacon Larry Oney, founder and president of Hope and Purpose Ministries, will be leading a team to Uganda for an international mission. While in Uganda, Deacon Oney and the team will be participating in many ministry events:

Deacon Oney will be part of the Renewal Ministries’ Team that is hosting the annual Priests’ Retreat in Uganda. Deacon Oney will be teaching during the retreat; which will be held at the Ggaba National Seminary in Kampala, Uganda. There will be more than 350 priests participating in the retreat. Also part of the retreat team will be Dr. Ralph Martin and Fr. Mathias Thelen.

Dr. Ralph Martin is president of Renewal Ministries, an organization devoted to Catholic renewal and evangelization. Ralph also hosts The Choices We Face , a widely viewed weekly Catholic television and radio program distributed throughout the world.

Fr. Mathias Thelen is the spiritual director at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and an assistant professor of theology. In 2016, Fr. Thelen earned his Licentiate in Sacred Theology from the Angelicum in Rome.
Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement
Deacon Oney and the Hope and Purpose Ministries Team will also be visiting the Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement while in Uganda. This settlement is home to more than 100,000 people; many women and children refugees from South Sudan. Deacon Oney and the team will go to share a meal and encourage the priests and leaders there and discuss ways that we can effectively help the women and children. One of our goals is to build a Hope and Purpose House in Uganda that can be a place of support and encouragement for the women and children refugees. A place where they can come and receive personal care bags and learn basic skills to support their families, receive educational services, and rediscover the hope and purpose that God has for them.
10,000 People Gather for Prayer Meeting
Deacon Oney and the Hope and Purpose Ministries Team will also teach and minister at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine Namugongo where over 10,000 thousand people will gather for teaching and prayer.
The team will also travel to Ft. Portal, Uganda where the school that we have been helping to build will be dedicated. The school is an elementary school that has now grown to over 700 students. Deacon Oney laid the foundation stone and blessed the school on 2/7/18. Since then, Fr. Mushabe, the priest who runs the school, has overseen the construction of three complete classrooms made from brick, with desks, chairs, and classroom materials. The parents of some of the students were very emotional as they saw the quality of the classroom block where their children will study. This school is in a neglected area and it has brought a sense of hope to the community and a sense of purpose is being nurtured. Christ the King Church
Deacon Oney will also be teaching and ministering at the Christ the King Church one evening during the mission.
