Budget Work In Process:
At this time, Governor Greitens has recommended that Alternatives to Abortion funding be increased to $7,096,917. Budget work is just beginning and the House and Senate have not finalized the numbers. We will keep you updated as the budget moves through the process.
Committee Hearings this week in the House and Senate included:
The House Ways and Means Committee Combined HCS HB 1288, 1377 (Champion for Children Tax Credit - Sponsored by Rep. Sara Walsh), and 2050 (Champion for Children Tax Credit - Sponsored by Rep. Kevin Austin) into one benevolent tax credit bill and Voted Do Pass out of Committee. HB 1288 extends the tax credits for 17 Maternity Homes and 71 Pregnancy Resource Centers around the state. HCS HB 1288, 1377 & 2050 has now been referred to the House Rules Committee on Administrative Oversight. HB 1288 is sponsored by Rep. Kevin Engler.
The House Children and Families Committee held a public hearing on HB 1266, sponsored by Rep. Donna Lichtenegger, the bill to ban abortion on babies that can feel pain during an abortion, known as the "Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act."
The House Children and Families Committee also held a public hearing on HB 1361, sponsored by Rep. Bill Kidd, this bill establishes "Simon's Law" which changes the laws regarding life-sustaining or non-beneficial treatment policies of health care facilities and prevents DNR orders from being placed in a minor child's medical file without the parent's knowledge.
The committee took no action on HB 1266 or HB 1361.
The Senate Economic Development Committee held a public hearing on SB 632, sponsored by Senator Bob Dixon, the bill to extend tax credits for Pregnancy Resource Centers and Maternity Homes. No action was taken by the Committee.
The Senate Seniors, Families and Children Committee voted SB 724 Do Pass out of Committee. SB 724 bans abortion based solely on sex, race or the diagnosis of Down Syndrome. SB 742 is sponsored by Senator David Sater.
