On Mother's Day, our thoughts turn to those who not only gave us life, but who gave us love.

Today we thank and pray for all women who have opened their hearts and homes to the gift of life -- both biological and adopted.

Lord, please help all to once again hold sacred human life. Help us to understand your love for us and this wonderful gift of life! Amen.
Legislative Update: Senate Majority Fails to Pass Pro-Life Legislation

The following statement is from Steve Rupp, President of Missouri Right to Life:

While pro-abortion forces bask in their victory having stopped pro-life legislation, pro-life Missourians are questioning the lack of action by the Republican majority. Pro-life people of faith and values who went to the polls in November to elect pro-life leaders expect more!

In the wake of the Board of Aldermen in St. Louis City declaring St. Louis to be a sanctuary city for abortion and U.S. District Judge Sachs ruling against common sense regulation of abortion clinics, the Missouri Senate has failed to act on pro-life legislation. When it comes to protecting women and saving babies, no end-of-session dysfunction or filibuster can explain this away. Pro-life action could have been taken many times over the past weeks of the legislative session.

Missouri Right to Life continues to work with pro-life legislators and elected officials to find a way to protect women and babies. Governor Greitens has been very vocal about his support of HCS HB 174/SB 41 and HCS HB 194/SB 67. We know stopping sanctuary cities for abortion, accountability of baby body parts, jurisdiction issues for the Attorney General, Whistleblower protection and abortion clinic inspections have been priorities of pro-life Missourians this entire 2017 legislative session!

Pray for our leadership and Missouri Right to Life as we work to protect women and babies from the deceptions of the abortion industry.
MRL Statewide Meeting

All are invited to attend the annual statewide Leadership meeting on Saturday, June 10, 10:00 am in Pleus Hall at Immaculate Conception Church 1206 E McCarty.

A bias is growing in our culture. It assumes that if a person cannot be cured, it is futile to give her care. The bias gets stronger when a person can no longer speak and appears unconscious. But doesn't human life have more value than that?

MRL's General Counsel, Jim Cole, will speak about how to use the legal tools of advance directives and health-care powers of attorney to obtain as much protection as the law will allow for respecting all human lives, our own and others', until natural death comes to claim us.
Rest in Peace, Orville Burkemper

Former MRL Eastern Region board member and local pro-life hero Orville Burkemper passed away May 10, 2017.

To try to list Orville's accomplishments in the pro-life movement and for the babies he loved so dearly would take pages. Let it be said that he was a champion and an inspiration to all who knew him!

As Congressman Henry Hyde said,
When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face that awesome moment, the final judgment, I've often thought, as Fulton Sheen wrote, that it is a terrible moment of loneliness. You have no advocates, you are there alone standing before God - and a terror will rip your soul like nothing you can imagine. But I really think that those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there'll be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world - and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, 'Spare him, because he loved us!
Rest in peace, Orville, and know that your example will continue to lead others for years to come in defense of LIFE!
