Legislative Update: March 10, 2017

Pro-Life Action Day is Next Tuesday, March 14 in Jefferson City
Next week Pro-Life people from all over the State will gather in Jefferson City to support pro-life legislation and pro-life legislators! We need you to join us and encourage your legislators to pass pro-life legislation!

Priority Legislation

-Stop sanctuary cities for abortion.
-Tighten abortion clinic inspection statute to require at least one annual on-site inspection of abortion facilities and require an accounting report for the disposition of all tissue from aborted babies.
-"Whistleblower" protection for abortion clinic employees.
-Continue to redirect federal funding of family-planning dollars to federally qualified health centers and state rural health agencies for expanded health care for women.

Guest Speaker at the noon rally will be Melissa Ohden. Melissa is the survivor of a failed saline infusion abortion in 1977. Despite the initial concerns about Melissa's future after surviving the attempt to end her life at approximately seven months gestation, she has not only survived but thrived.

We will also hear briefly from Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, Attorney General Josh Hawley, Speaker of the House Todd Richardson and President Pro-tem of the Senate Ron Richard. There is also still a possibility that Governor Eric Greitens will also be present to greet the rally crowd.

Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. Transportation is available from many areas of the state.
Please join our event on Facebook or visit www.missourilife.org for transportation and additional information regarding Pro-Life Action Day.

Senator John Schneider, Rest in Peace

It is with respect and appreciation that Missouri Right to Life remembers Senator John Schneider who passed away last weekend.

Over the 32 years that he served in the Missouri Senate, whenever pro-life legislation was being considered, Senator Schneider could be found right in the middle of it advocating for the lives of unborn children.

In the later years, when passing pro-life legislation became more difficult, John Schneider was able, due to his statesmanship, his relationships in both parties and his expertise in moving legislation through the process, to make it happen. The passage of the Infant protection act, the Missouri ban on partial- birth abortion and the override of Democrat governor Mel Carnahan would not have happened without Senator Schneider.

Not only would the law stop partial-birth abortion in Missouri, language similar to that in the Missouri bill was used in the second version of the federal bill which was passed and upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. The federal ban on partial-birth abortion stopped the practice across the country.

Rest In Peace, Senator Schneider.
