Opioid Epidemic
At Ozone House we see the effects of the opiod epidemic in Washtenaw County, whether it be the results of a parent addiction or a young persons addiction. The pace of the opioid epidemic is accelerating for youth and young adults, in particular.  In 2010, 3% of opioid overdose deaths were to residents aged 15-24 years.  In 2016, 30% of opioid overdose deaths were to Washtenaw County residents in this age range.  F or details about these astonishing statistics, c lick here  for the Washtenaw Health Initiative Opioid Project website.

The Engagement Program:  Substance Use Support
As a response to the increase in addictions among young people, Ozone House, in partnership with Corner Health, has begun The Engagement Program. This program is a harm reduction program to engage youth, ages 10-25, who could be at risk for substance use disorders.  This program supports youth to make behavioral changes in their lives, and when necessary provides therapy, or a referral to an addictions medicine specialist. In addition there is a Real Talk group that meets twice a month at our Drop-In Center.

CommunityeducationCommunity Education

Ways we continue to educate our community:
  • Ozone House staff hosted a "lunch and learn" about the Education Project to approximately 50 educators and school counselors from throughout the county. This year we packed and delivered over 1200 backpacks to school-aged youth.
  • Our MORE program coordinator also held a" lunch and learn" about MORE Support. MORE supports youth, that are now in college, who have experienced foster care or other disruptions in caregiving as well as youth who are experiencing significant housing instability.
  • Outreach has been taking place at the Delonis Center for several weeks now. This is a great way for Ozone House to connect with 18-20 year olds. The Delonis staff is directly connecting our outreach team to youth as well.
  • On March 4th Applied Fitness Solutions (AFS) hosted a #PassionatePurpleout to support Ozone House. Everyone got a great workout along with learning about homeless youth.
  • Ozone House was the featured Charity for the 2017 Marathon thanks to Epic Races. We were honored and delighted to be prominently featured on their registration page and at the expo. We loved having the opportunity to be exposed to over 3000 runners and their friends and families. Special thank you to AFS member Zoe Thompson for organizing and hosting the Cardio for a Cause running group every Saturday for the last few months.
  • Orange Theory Fitness of Ann Arbor (2 locations) educated several hundred members about our mission by promoting a facebook check-in promotion during the month of March.
