Momentum for Change Events at the UN Climate Change Conference

We're organizing a series of special events from 12-17 November at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Marrakech (COP 22).

These events will celebrate the 2016 Momentum for Change Lighthouse Activities with inspiring videos, photography, roundtable discussions, an exhibition space and an evening award ceremony.

Momentum for Change will also launch two new focus areas - Planetary Health and Climate Neutral Now - as well as host a special event to showcase smart lighting systems.

Please see the full schedule below. All events take place in the Climate Action Arena, Room Fes, inside the "Blue Zone" of the Bab Ighli conference venue. The events are open to all registered participants attending COP 22.

Saturday 12 November

11:00 to 12:00

Momentum for Change: Energy Efficiency Through Smart Lighting Systems

This event will explore how countries, cities and corporations are using smart lighting systems to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce energy costs. High-levels speakers will discuss how these systems are creating a profound transformation of the lighting sector, pushing the old technologies out of the market.

Momentum for Change: Planetary Health Launch Event

In collaboration with The Rockefeller Foundation, the UNFCCC secretariat will launch a new pillar under its Momentum for Change initiative called Planetary Health. This new pillar will recognize human-health-focused solutions that address the drivers of environmental change by promoting sustainable and equitable patterns of consumption, addressing challenges of population growth, and harnessing the power of technology for change.

Momentum for Change: Women for Results

This event will show how women are leading the way on climate action worldwide. The event is divided into two segments. The first is a high-level panel discussion that will explore how gender equality and the empowerment of women is critical when addressing climate change and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. The second segment will demonstrate on-the-ground examples of climate solutions that are led by, and empower, women by the 2016 winners of the Momentum for Change Women for Results focus area.

Wednesday 16 November

Momentum for Change: Financing for Climate Friendly Investment

This event will recognize how innovation is playing a key role in unlocking financial resources resulting in greater institutional capacity to fund activities that promote low-carbon growth and highly resilient communities. The event will showcase climate action by the 2016 winners of the Momentum for Change Financing for Climate Friendly Investment focus area.

Momentum for Change: Showcase Event

This exciting and uplifting evening event will celebrate the 2016 Momentum for Change Lighthouse Activity winners with inspiring videos, photography and an award ceremony.

Thursday 16 November

Momentum for Change: Climate Neutral Now Launch Event

With Momentum for Change: Climate Neutral Now the secretariat has a unique opportunity to bring together two of its flagship activities that recognize leadership in tackling climate change by non-Party stakeholders. This launch event will feature a high-level dialogue between senior government officials, corporate leaders and civil society representatives.

Momentum for Change: ICT Solutions

This event will bring together thought leaders and ICT innovators to discuss the importance of ICT in enabling action on climate change and to show how the increased use of ICT across all sectors in society is reducing energy use, cutting greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience. The event will showcase climate action by the 2016 winners of the Momentum for Change ICT Solutions focus area.
