Don't Settle!
Issy SharpIssy Sharp, the Canadian hotelier, noted in the early days of his career that there were two types of hotels in Canada, his homeland.

The first type was small, with a limited number of rooms. These little facilities provided highly customized service to their guests. As there were only a few rooms it was easy for the owners to get to know their guests and cater to their needs and preferences.

The second type were large, multi-story lodgings. The great number of rooms in these hotels and the corresponding revenue made it possible to provide major amenities, such as restaurants and gyms. But, customized service was lost as the number of guests increased.

Issy dreamed of a hotel that would provide both amenities and personalized service. He was told it could not be done. The prevailing wisdom was that customization and the larger revenues required to provide additional services was a natural trade-off with customization. You could have one but not the other.

But, he would not give up his dream of providing highly personalized service alongside valuable additional amenities. He went on to found the Four Seasons built on providing both in large measure. And he single-handedly changed the hospitality industry forever.

Do you feel you are living in the midst of a trade-off? For example, you cannot have great personal health, a high-quality family life, and powerful professional success? Well, do what Issy did and keep asking how you can have it all. With persistence, you can find the solution that works for you without compromising your needs. You don't have to settle!

Long-term success is never achieved on our own. The phrase ‘a self-made man’ is a myth – all along the way we need support.
