What
makes the special bond between two beings?
Here is my daughter Ruchi sleeping with Betsy, our Cairn-Bischon
mutt. The day Ruchi first arrived in our house from India she was
enamored with Betsy, petting her and covering her with blankets.
Apparently the feeling was mutual because Betsy let her do these
things.
Over the last 2 1/2 years it has become a nightly ritual for Betsy to
join Ruchi for a good night's sleep. Faitfully she goes up the
stairs when it's Ruchi's bedtime and hops on the bed where she often is
encouraged to put her canine head on the pillow.
This picture was taken at one in the morning last Friday when I
returned home from a business trip to Los Angeles. I peeked in to see
my favorite girl and there they were, both in a deep sleep.
When two creatures are lucky enough to fall in love with each other and have the
opportunity to spend so much time together, who can stand in their way?
Ruchi was lucky enough to have this little pup to welcome her at the
end of a long journey that no doubt involved many
disappointments. And Betsy, too, is lucky enough to have a little
girl who loves her and wants nothing more than to make her a playmate
in earnest.
Call up one of your best friends this week and let them know how
important they are to you. True friendship is one of life's supreme
treasures.

want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who
will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.
