If you find yourself dissatisfied with your own
performance, here is an assessment that will uncover what you can do
about it. When it comes to those things you can influence, these
five factors are what enable you to deliver results. To the extent than
any one is weak or inadequate, your performance will be less than it
could be:
1. Passion - Do you care and care deeply? Desire is the fuel that
motivates extraordinary achievement. Without it you cannot expect your
best. Lacking passion you will not regularly put in the extra effort
that will lift you up and over expected obstacles. With it you can
arouse exceptional effort and overcome daunting challenges.
2. Self-esteem - Do you believe you
are capable? If you are failing to accomplish something
important, check your confidence in your own ability. Doubting yourself
is one of the surest ways to lower achievement below what you are
capable of.
3. Skill - Do you possess the required expertise? While you can be
passionate and believe yourself capable, sometimes you simply need the
know-how to execute!
4. Capacity - Do you have everything you need to deliver? You may
need resources, infrastructure, or tools. If you have not yet reached
your goal, it could be because you lack the necessary implements,
equipment, fuel, or systems. Make sure you have what it takes to get
the job done.
5. Communication - Do you have high quality and effective outreach? For
every aspect of your achievement that requires the cooperation of
others, have you provided the clear and compelling information they
require?
When you yearn for better results, check in against each of these five.
Give yourself a rating on a scale of 1 - 5 to discover which is
weakest. Then address that one because that is where you will see the
best return on your investment of energy and attention.
Your destiny is to
fulfill those things upon which you focus most intently. So choose to
keep your focus on that which is truly magnificent, beautiful,
uplifting and joyful. Your life is always moving toward something.
