Fact: Almost 50 percent of the entire edible food items manufactured are never consumed.

Google recently released a paper that proposes they dampen sites that contain large numbers of false facts. "We propose using Knowledge-Based Trust (KBT) to estimate source trustworthiness..."

Fact: It's illegal to kill a hedgehog with a machine gun in Britain.

The Google researchers give, as an example, websites that say President Obama was born in Kenya. Such sites would be penalized in Google rankings, whereas sites that correctly say he was born in the U.S. would get a boost in rankings.

Fact: When a secretary at Apple was late because of car trouble, Steve Jobs gave her a Jaguar and said, "Don't be late anymore."

There are currently 2.8 billion Google �facts� in Google's "Knowledge Vault," which the researchers used for their ranking system.

Fact: If sugar is applied on a cut, it will help in the healing process and will also stop the blood flow.

"[We] were thus able to reliably predict the trustworthiness of 119 million webpages and 5.6 million websites," the researchers write in their new paper.

Fact: Your height is generally determined by your father. Intelligence, emotional strength and body shape is determined by the mother.

�This was research - we don�t have any specific plans to implement it in our products. We publish hundreds of research papers every year,� said a Google spokesperson.

Fact: When crying for help, call out specific people (eg. "you with the red shirt!"). It makes people more likely to act.
