The Urban Mission Cabinet, Inc. invites all members of the Presbytery of New Brunswick to participate in its first annual "Unity In the Community" Dinner on Friday, May 1st at 7pm Trenton Masonic Temple at 100 Barrack Street, Trenton, NJ. The dinner is an important part of a series of dynamic activities being organized by The UMC Inc. in the week leading up to The May 7, 2015 National Day of Prayer. The UMC Inc. is seeking to unify a broad and diverse cross section of local faith and community based organizations for fellowship and focus on the critical opportunities for a transformational approach to urban mission work. The Urban Mission Cabinet, Inc. (UMC Inc.) invites any adult Mercer County resident presently enrolled in an English as a Second Language program to participate in its first annual Unity In the Community Essay Contest. The Unity in the Community Essay Contest is an important part of a dynamic series of activities being organized by the UMC Inc. in the week leading up to The May 7, 2015 National Day of Prayer. The UMC Inc. will accept submissions of essays written in English of 300-500 words on the theme, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall." Submitted essays should speak to importance of unity in the community from the personal perspective of a local resident who lives in Mercer County and speaks English as a second language. The winner of the Essay Competition will receive a cash award and be invited to read the winning essay at the first annual, UMC Inc. Unity in the Community Dinner on May 1, 2015. HOLY WEEK ACTIVITIES AT ALEXANDRIA
|
Palm Sunday service, March 29th 10 a.m. with the annual cross raising ceremony following the service. Maundy Thursday, April 2, at 7 p.m., the annual Care to Share Lenten Program in the AFPC Fellowship Hall to support NORWESCAP Food Bank in Phillipsburg, New Jersey. Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m., a respectful and solemn Good Friday Tenebrae (children over the age of 7 are welcome for this thought-provoking and worshipful evening) with a traditional silent departure. Easter Sunday, April 5th, 2 services at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. A lively Easter Egg Hunt will ensue outside on the church picnic grounds between the two services, moving inside for inclement weather. PW SPRING GATHERING
|
The Rev. W. Mark Koenig, Director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations will be the guest speaker for the Spring Gathering of Presbyterian Women of New Brunswick Presbytery. His theme will echo that of the 59th Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations: empowering women, reducing poverty for women, increasing educational access, improving health care and health access throughout the world. First, Rev. Koenig will do a presentation followed by a question and answer session. Second, attendees will be given an opportunity to speak one on one during lunch. You are invited to take advantage of his presence throughout the day. The Spring Gathering is April 11, 2015 from 9:30 until 2 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1140 Greenwood Ave., Trenton. The presentation will be preceded by elections and a business meeting. Reserve your seat now as space is limited. Registration is $5 which includes lunch and a continental breakfast. MARK ACHTEMEIER AT COVENANT CHURCH
|
On Sunday, April 26, the Rev. Dr. Mark Achtemeier will preach at Covenant Presbyterian Church at its regular 10:30 a.m. service of worship. Immediately following worship Dr. Achtemeier will lead a forum entitled "A Conversation on The Bible and the Full Inclusion of LGBTQ Christians in the Community of Faith." At the forum, Mark will be speaking about the scriptural journey that led him from being a conservative activist working to oppose gay ordination, to becoming a leading voice for the full acceptance of LGBT Christians in all aspects of the church's life. Mark has served the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) for more than three decades as a pastor, theologian, and writer. He is the author of "The Bible's Yes to Same-Sex Marriage: an Evangelical's Change of Heart." John Buchanan, the former moderator of the PC(USA) and editor of The Christian Century wrote, "With his skills as a distinguished biblical scholar, his pastor's heart, and his personal integrity, Mark Achtemeier carefully explores what Scripture says, and does not say, about same-sex relationships and marriage.
