MONDAY IN MINISTRY

Volume 11 Issue 16      April 20, 2015

PRESBYTERY OFFICE TODAY
In my enthusiasm for the nice weather this past weekend, I did a marathon session in our gardens.  Subsequently, I pulled a muscle in my back and am having considerable discomfort this morning.  So I am home today.  The Presbytery Office will not open.  If you need me, my cell is 609/532-4625.  Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

BIG TENT REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN

Experience that deep sense of community one would expect at a national gathering of Presbyterians-a great big family reunion!  Join us for a wide variety of workshops, all under one Big Tent, a conference that will inspire and equip Presbyterians to live missionally.

YOUNG ADULT VOLUNTEERS

The Mission Interpretation and Social Witness Committee knows of one young adult from a church in our presbytery who has volunteered to serve in the Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) program of our denomination.  (https://www.presbyterianmission.org/ministries/yav).

If any one reading this knows of any other young adults who have volunteered for this year please let Ted Settle know via email at [email protected]

BECOME A PRESBYTERIAN PANELIST

From the PCUSA website:

Presbyterian Research Services is inviting YOU to join a list of potential Presbyterian Panelists!

Since 1973, church leaders have turned to the Presbyterian Panel to learn more about the beliefs and practices of Presbyterians. By joining this list, you will be added to a group of people who are willing to answer occasional surveys that may help Presbyterian entities, congregations, and others make informed decisions and reach their goals.

It is important that the group of panelists we select represents Presbyterians as a whole. We are also interested in extending our panel to represent those in new worshiping communities, new immigrant fellowships, and new expressions of worship! All surveys will be available in English, Spanish, and Korean.

If you are interested in serving on the Presbyterian Panel, please answer the following demographic questions to help Research Services select a representative sample of Presbyterians: http://eepurl.com/bfUuIb

If you are selected to become a Presbyterian Panelist, you will be sent a welcome letter with further details. If you are not selected right away, Research Services will keep you on a list of potential Panelists for the future. You can unsubscribe from this list at any time.

THE CHURCH HAS LEFT THE BUILDING

Last year several churches in our presbytery (Flemington, Hopewell, Mt Airy, Stockton, Bound Brook & Titusville) joined in this large ecumenical effort and had a great experience. We would encourage our fellows to consider sending someone to the introductory meeting to learn more about it!

Here is the invitation:

"One Sunday morning last fall churches of different denominations in several states left their buildings to bless their communities through an unbelievable number of mission projects. When they met that night to worship Jesus it was like a taste of heaven.

This year I invite you and the people of your congregation or ministry to link arms with us for Living Outside the Box: The Church Has Left the Building 2015. There will be an introductory meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd at Woodside Presbyterian Church - 1667 Edgewood Road, Lower Makefield, PA. Come, bring some leaders and learn about it. There's no obligation to sign up, we're not selling anything, and we don't charge anything to be part of this. You can choose any Sunday to leave your building.

To sign up for the April 22nd  introductory meeting  Click Here.  Please feel free to forward this email to other pastors. To learn more watch this two minute video by clicking here. You can also get more details by Clicking Here.
Yours in Christ,
Doug Hoglund"

JAPANESE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT EXHIBITION

Example of Ikebana

Grace Taiwanese Presbyterian Church (2020 Brunswick Ave., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648) is holding a Japanese Flower Arrangement exhibition on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 from 12:00PM - 4:00PM.

All the flower arrangements are created by the Ikebana enthusiasts who studied under Ms. Meei- huey Lin, the renowned Ikebana teacher in Philadelphia area. The Japanese-style arrangements open us to discover the beauty of God's creation. Besides an exuberant exhibit, on Saturday April 25 we will hold a demo and a workshop so that you may have a chance to experience the flower arrangements yourself.

  • A demonstration of the arrangements will be held from 12:30 PM to 1:30PM by three of her students, Lynn Lee, June Wu and Grazynka Shaarani.
  • Between 2:00PM and 4:00PM, a workshop will be conducted by Chih-huei Huang. If you have kenzan pin holder, please bring it with you along with your favorite container. Don't worry if you don't have neither of them. We will provide the materials. Due to the limited space of the location, seating is limited to 12 spots. Please call 609-851-0789 or 215-321-0416 or e-mail [email protected] before Wednesday April 23, if you are interested in attending the workshop. There is no charge. Donations are welcome.
