THE SYMPOSIUM

The next meeting of The Symposium book club will be on Monday, March 16 at Princeton Seminary. Dinner will be in the cafeteria in Mackay Campus Center at 6 p.m. with our regular meeting to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Clarke Lounge in Erdman Hall (20 Library Place).

We have two books for discussion this month. The first will be Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy which we missed when our January meeting was cancelled. Don Urban will give the presentation. The second book is available under two titles: Through the Valley of the Kwai 1962) and To End All Wars (2001). This is Ernest Gordon's story of his experiences as a prisoner of war of the Japanese in Southeast Asia during World War II. John Potter will present this book. Both books deal with issues of Christian calling, behavior and ideals and should lead to an interesting discussion.

Let's hope for some Spring weather even though the season doesn't officially begin until a few days later!

We look forward to seeing you. As always, we welcome visitors and guests. Dinner for first time guests will be paid for out of our treasury.

GLORY - 2015 CONCERT SERIES

Somerset Presbyterian Church proudly presents Glory - 2015 Concert series featuring 150 Central on Saturday, March 28 at 7PM at the church.  The doors open at 6PM.  There will be a free will offering to benefit the ongoing mission and ministries of the church.

FROM 150 CENTRAL WEBSITE:
150 Central is a Contemporary Christian band that began its roots in ministry at the Catholic Community of St. Matthias, Somerset, NJ.

Originally known as the "150 Praise Band"  the name found its origin in Psalm 150, praising  God with a variety of musical instruments - trumpet, harp, lyre, tambourine, drums, strings, flute and cymbals.  The Psalm concludes with the verse, "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord,"  a phrase that has become somewhat of a mantra of the band.

Since its beginnings during the summer of 2009, the band has grown in a number of different directions.  Arriving at the place we find ourselves now, 150 Central has been given an opportunity, a platform of sorts.  "We've been given this platform and we feel like God wants us to use it to share a message of hope, about hanging in there and not giving up, a message that we are deeply loved."

150 Central embraces God's calling with taking yet another step forward, shaking up its direction, moving outside the walls of its parish community. It is our hope to reach those who have yet to understand or embrace the gospel message of love.   To those that are broken, God can heal us. To those with addictions, God can restore us. To those filled with guilt and shame, God loves us so we can love ourselves.

PW SPRING GATHERING

The Rev. W. Mark Koenig, Director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations will be the guest speaker for the Spring Gathering of Presbyterian Women of New Brunswick Presbytery.  His theme will echo that of the 59th Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations:  empowering women, reducing poverty for women, increasing educational access, improving health care and health access throughout the world.  Learn about the projects and programs supported by Presbyterian women.

This rare visit will give women the opportunity to hear what is most compelling and innovative about the issues that women face each day from two perspectives.  First,  Rev. Koenig will do a presentation followed by a question and answer session.  Second, attendees will be given an opportunity to speak one on one during lunch.  You are invited to take advantage of his presence throughout the day.

The Spring Gathering is April 11, 2015 from 9:30 until 2 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1140 Greenwood Ave., Trenton.  The presentation will be preceded by elections and a business meeting.  Reserve your seat now as space is limited.  Registration is $5 which includes lunch and a continental breakfast.  Reserve your space early by calling Janice Rockmore at 609-882-6137 or Mary Potter at 908-782-8349.  Don't forget to call Mary if you're interested in serving as an officer.
