RIVER CHURCHES PRESENT "THE PEOPLE VS. JUDAS ISCARIOT"

A five-part dramatic presentation, "The People vs. Judas Iscariot," is under way, held jointly during Lent by a group of Presbyterian churches in south Hunterdon and Mercer counties and open to all.

The first session was Wednesday night at Mount Airy Presbyterian in West Amwell Township.

It's set up as a modern-day courtroom trial, with the audience sworn in as jurors of the "Lenten District Court of the Court of the River Churches."

The drama continues each Wednesday night for the next four weeks. Each includes a time of singing, prayer and Scripture reading.

But instead of a sermon, people are witnessing a play, the court proceedings of Judas. He was, according to the New Testament, one of the 12 original apostles of Jesus Christ. He is known for the kiss and betrayal of Jesus to the Sanhedrin for 30 silver coins.

At the first session, Mike Atzert, pastor of Kirkpatrick Memorial Presbyterian in Ringoes, took the witness stand as disciple John. Peter Gregory, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Lambertville, is serving as judge.

The next session, March 4, is at Titusville Presbyterian Church, 48 River Drive. "All have Sinned - All Need Forgiveness" is the theme of Act II. (article text taken from NJ.Com)

PW SPRING GATHERING

The Rev. W. Mark Koenig, Director of the Presbyterian Ministry at the United Nations will be the guest speaker for the Spring Gathering of Presbyterian Women of New Brunswick Presbytery.  His theme will echo that of the 59th Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations:  empowering women, reducing poverty for women, increasing educational access, improving health care and health access throughout the world.  Learn about the projects and programs supported by Presbyterian women.

This rare visit will give women the opportunity to hear what is most compelling and innovative about the issues that women face each day from two perspectives.  First,  Rev. Koenig will do a presentation followed by a question and answer session.  Second, attendees will be given an opportunity to speak one on one during lunch.  You are invited to take advantage of his presence throughout the day.

The Spring Gathering is April 11, 2015 from 9:30 until 2 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1140 Greenwood Ave., Trenton.  The presentation will be preceded by elections and a business meeting.  Reserve your seat now as space is limited.  Registration is $5 which includes lunch and a continental breakfast.  Reserve your space early by calling Janice Rockmore at 609-882-6137 or Mary Potter at 908-782-8349.  Don't forget to call Mary if you're interested in serving as an officer.

Did you know there are Presbyterian mission staff on the ground there? Let them know you are coming, and they would love to meet you! They can even introduce you to local Israeli and Palestinian mission partners of the PC(USA)!

Make your pilgrimage one in which you actually follow in the footsteps of Jesus by walking not only where he did, but as he did-noticing people, hearing their stories, and caring about them. Contact mission coworker Kate Taber at [email protected].
