The senior team qualified for the state contest by winning the Area III competition on November first. The area competition was held at the River Bend Wildlife Management Area in Laurens County. Also, both junior teams qualified at this competition. The Monroe County Middle School FFA team won the Area III contest and the ninth grade team placed second in the Junior Division of the Area III contest.
At the State contest, the Middle School FFA Team of Cameron Sparks, Alex Soule, and Willow Waldrep won the Junior Division. The junior team from Mary Persons High School: Tyannah Ogletree, Anna Grace Simmons, and Deanna Stokes placed third in the State for the Junior Division. Individually, Monroe County had the top four scores in the Junior Division, Willow Waldrep was high individual in the state, Cameron Sparks was 2nd high individual, and Deanna Stokes and Anna Grace Simmons tied for third place individually.
In the Senior Division of the State land judging, FFA Members Tyler Faulk, Matt Fields, Ashton Hooks, and Cody Sizemore won the state contest. By winning the state contest, this team earned the chance to compete in the national land judging competition in Oklahoma City on May 1-3, 2018.
