The Monroe County Board of Education is considering three two-year calendar options.  Please follow the link to the survey below.  Your input is valuable as the Board of Education makes the final decision regarding the school calendar for the upcoming year and the 19-20 school year.

MP Defeats Baldwin:  Elite 8 Against Jefferson
MP defeated Baldwin 39-14 to advance to the Elite 8 in the GHSA AAAA playoffs. The Dogs will host Jefferson next week in the quarterfinals. Congrats to our football team, band, cheerleaders, and fans on a great night.

Monroe County Schools will be open on Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21.  Schools are closed for the Thanksgiving Holidays on Wednesday through Friday, November 22-24.  Classes resume on Monday, November 27.
MCBOE Recognizes KBS Years of Service
Congratulations KB Sutton Elementary School personnel who were awarded their years of service pins and awards at last week's Board of Education meeting. Five Years:  Caitlin Green, Becky Henderson, Sallie Speir.  10 years:  Donna Burris, Jennifer Dews, Judy Walker.  15 Years:  Charita Brown, Misty Sparks, Julie White.  25 Years:  Barbara Watkins.  35 Years:  Ruth Brantley. Welcome New BOE Member, Dr. Priscilla Doster

At the November Board of Education work session, the Board of Education welcomed the newest member, Dr. Priscilla G. Doster.  Dr. Doster will be sworn in officially after the state's official certification of the recent election.  Dr. Doster is a native of Monroe County and a graduate of Mary Persons High School.  She is a veteran educator and administrator who served Monroe County Schools in educational leadership for 23 years.  Her civic and community service contributions are extensive.  She will represent District Two of the Board of Education. 
MPHS Academic Team Makes Playoffs
Congratulations to the MPHS Academic Team.  Varsity and JV made playoffs on Saturday at the Brookwood tournament.  We are proud of our members for competing!

GADOE Seeking Feedback on New State Physical Education and Health Standards
The Georgia Department of Education welcomes your feedback and comments regarding a survey opportunity for the review of the Physical Education Georgia Performance Standards (GPS). This survey feedback will be used to inform the development of Physical Education Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE).
The survey will be posted for 60 days beginning on November 14, 2017, and will close on January 12, 2018, at 5:00 p.m. EST.
We ask for your assistance in communicating this survey opportunity to your Physical Education teachers, administrators, parents, and other education stakeholders. The link below will provide access to the standards and survey.

Donate Your Empty 2 Liter Bottles to Help Hubbard Elementary School First Graders

Please donate empty 2 liter bottles to Hubbard Elementary School's first grade classes.  They are taking on the ambitious project of using 1500 2 liter bottles to build a greenhouse.  You can drop off your donations at Hubbard Elementary School.  Contact STEM Coordinator Susan Curtis at susan.curtis@mcschools.org for more information.

GADOE School Climate Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. Parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey.  Data will be used as part of  calculation of the School Climate Star Rating.  Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey.
