Did you see who was our Facebook Businesses of the Day this month?

Message from Chairman of the Board, Ken Schlick

Our March Membership meeting was at the Winking Lizard and Chief of Police/Interim City Manager Carl Deforest delivered a fantastic presentation on the State of the City. We are truly blessed to have such a skilled professional as Chief Deforest. As acting City Manager, he highlighted many great aspects of the City of Brunswick. One item of importance was the need for road repairs. We should consider how having safe and good roads impacts our community. The City of Brunswick strives to attract and retain businesses and residents, having good roads helps accomplish this goal. This provides for a stronger tax base that would alleviate the current tax burden for Brunswick city residents. We have a city that can make a difference through positive growth and improvements. Thank you Chief Carl Deforest, Brunswick City Council and the Administrative Staff for being such contributors!

March 22nd was another fun filled day in Brunswick. 119 businesses were featured at Bring on Brunswick. I would like to extend a huge thank you to our Presenting Sponsor, Cuyahoga Community College and to all of our Corporate sponsors; Westfield Bank, Southwest General Hospital, First Merit Bank, Giant Eagle, Imperial Pest Control and our Media sponsor Northeast Ohio Media Group (The Plain Dealer/Cleveland.com/Sun News).  Without sponsors events like this would never be a success... so thank you so much! Look for fun pic's to be added to the chamber website and social media covering this year's event. I hope everyone had a chance to see "Bob the Bear" wandering through the halls and maybe even stopping for a photo op.

I wonder if Bob found a job? Speaking of jobs, the Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Job Fair is April 25th at the Brunswick Rec Center from 10 am to 2 pm. Our goal is to feature 25 business in the area in need of full and part time employees. We are working with JobsOHIO Medina County and the City of Brunswick to accomplish, market and promote this event to the community.

We have three new Chamber of Commerce member to welcome to Brunswick this month; Pete & Polly a children's resale shop at 1816 Pearl Rd., Nations Express Inc. a ground expedite and global logistics company at 3931 Center Rd. and Delish Cupcakery & Bake Shoppe located at 1450 Pearl Rd. Thank you for choosing Brunswick as your home! I personally sampled the cupcakes from Delish Cupcakery & Bake Shoppe during Bring on Brunswick and they were fabulous.

There will be a ribbon cutting for Yogurt City located in Town Center on April 7, 2014 at noon! Come on out and give them a warm reception! Also, Phoenix Cigars on Pearl Road will be doing their grand opening on April 26, 2014 from 11:00-8:00, stop in to see them!

And lastly, Garrettsville, Ohio recently suffered a horrific fire damaging about 15 businesses in their town. Our past Chairman, Lena Knight had contacted me with an outstanding idea of reaching out to them with possible used furniture donations to help them get back on their feet. As a Chamber, we will inquire about how and what can be done to give them aid in this devastating loss. So stay tuned for more information on this in the very near future.

Sincerely,

Ken Schlick

Chairman of the Brunswick Area Chamber of Commerce
