MAGNESS DELIVERS UPDATE
David Magness spoke at
our January luncheon and
gave us an update on  the
status of our roads.

Rockwall County continues to work on the $117.5 million transportation plan
approved by voters in 2004 and 2008. Projects that are underway at this time
are the FM 3549/I-30 Interchange and the widening of FM 740 in Heath.

The SH 66 project, which includes turn lanes at major intersections and the
rehabilitation of the main lanes, will begin in March of this year.

FM 3549 from I-30 to SH 66 will be widened to a four lane divided highway.
This project will begin in early 2018.

The SH 276, which extends from SH 205 eastward to FM 549, will be widened to
a six lane divided roadway, with construction expected to begin in late 2018.

TXDoT will be upgrading SH 205 across Rockwall County, with engineering
underway at this time. A construction date has not been set.

TXDoT is also widening I-30 form Bass Pro in Garland to the Rockwall/Hunt County line. This $600 million project calls for 4 main lanes from Bass Pro to SH 205. It also includes the addition of three lane service roads across the lake. From SH 205 eastward to the
FM 2642 Interchange in Hunt County, capacity will be increased to three lanes
each direction, with one way frontage roads across the county. Construction
of this project is estimated to be five or six years away.

Rockwall county has approximately $38 million remaining from the initial bond program, and will focus on FM 549, FM 552 and SH 276 with the remaining monies.
