Summer is slipping away and the new school year will be here before we know it!Our first Council Meeting of the year will be held on August 29th at 9:30 AM in the Cline Auditorium of the School Board building, 1701 Prudential Drive. We hope that you can join us!
We've put together an action list for all of our local PTA units so that you are ready to go in the new school year:
Be sure that you have registered your 2017-2018 new or returning officers on the Florida PTA website, floridapta.org.This is required before you can receive your Kit of Materials and your membership cards.
Verify that the previous officers have filed the audit of the 2016-2017 PTA books with the bookkeeper and emailed a copy to [email protected] and to [email protected].Change the signatures on the PTA bank account to this year’s signers.
The IRS requires that all PTAs file an annual 990 form. Please don’t delay. If the gross income last year was less than $50,000, the 990N should be filed electronically. For income between $50,000 and $200,000, the 990EZ and appropriate schedules must be filed.
Gear up for a successful membership drive.Be sure to send the invitation to join PTA home with the students with the initial packet of paperwork that is sent home by the school. Also, get your faculty members to join at the welcome back breakfast provided by the PTA.
Lastly, attend workshops and trainings which will help your PTA run smoothly.
Contact your Council Board members if you have questions or need assistance.
New and returning officers must visit FloridaPTA.org to register for the 2017-2018 school year. Membership Cards and the Florida PTA Kit of Materials will be sent to each local unit upon receipt of this completed form.
Please check the front page of your PTA bylaws for approval date. Bylaws are valid for 3 years from that date. To renew your bylaws, download the 2017-2018 form from the Florida PTA. Fill it out, get proper signatures, and fax to Florida PTA for approval. (407 240-9577). Be sure to fill out the bylaws submission form as well. Remember, any amendments need the vote of the membership following a 30 day notice. Otherwise, simple notification of the membership is all that is required. If you have any questions, contact Betty Marty at [email protected].
