Board of Supervisors Recognizes 2016-17 Moon Lady Tigers Gymnastics
                             
The Moon Township Supervisors recognized the Moon Area Lady Tigers gymnastics team at the April 5th supervisors meeting for all their outstanding achievements in the 2016-2017 season. Supervisor Jim Vitale read the proclamation honoring the team for winning a Section 2 title, a WPIAL title and the PIAA State Championship. The team completed the season with a
16-1-0 record.
April 9-15 is National Library Week

The Moon Township supervisors also recognized National Library Week at the April board meeting. Supervisor Andrew Gribben read the proclamation declaring April 9-15 National Library Week in the township. The proclamation credited libraries and librarians for the services they provide to the community and encouraged all residents to visit the Moon Township Library to explore what's new and engage with the librarian and staff. Present to accept the proclamation were Moon Township Library Director Anita Greene-Jones and Moon Library Board of Trustees members Michelle Haudrich and Eric Fogle.
 
2017 Road Improvements Approved

Moon Township Supervisors approved the 2017 Road Improvements Program at the April board meeting. The following roads will be paved between May and October:
  • Boggs School Road (after slope stabilization)
  • Carnot Road (a small section)
  • Cherrington Lane
  • Darnley Drive
  • Fern Hollow Road
  • Glenbrook Avenue
  • Lozer Drive
  • Old Thorn Run Road
  • Olde Manor Lane
  • Park Drive
  • Spencer Court
  • Woodlawn Drive
Additionally, the following governmental entities were able to take advantage of reduced paving rates using the township's contract:
  • Crescent Township - Sautter Drive and Cambon Drive
  • Moon Area School District - Parking lot repair at Bon Meade, Hyde and Brooks elementary schools
  • Moon Golf Club - 1000 feet of cartway
  • Moon Township Municipal Authority - two pump station driveways and paving around the Hassam Road sewage treatment plant
Property Tax Statements Mailed                                                             
Catherine Tress, Property Tax Collector, reminds all property owners that they should have received their 2017 yellow township property tax statement. If not, please contact her immediately at 412.299.7446. Online payments are available at www.moontaxoffice.us.

The tax office is located in the lower level of the Moon Township Community Center at 1700 Beaver Grade Road. Office hours are:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Thursday: 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. 
Saturday: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Fire Company Sportsmen's Bash

The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company is hosting its annual sportsmen's bash on Saturday, April 22 at the Public Safety Building firehouse from 12-7 p.m. Doors open at 11 a.m. Winners need not be present. The event often sells out, so purchase a ticket in advance from any Moon Township fireman or stop by the Public Safety Building firehouse on Monday nights.
  
Celebrate Earth Day at Robin Hill Park
Sunday, April 23
1 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Visit Robin Hill Park to learn how to protect and sustain our environment. This year's theme is "It's a Water-ful Life" and focuses on the importance of clean, safe and available water. Moon Area elementary school students in kindergarten through fourth grade participated in a t-shirt design contest, and the winner will be crowned at the event.  

Interactive exhibits feature the National Aviary, a climbing wall and a petting zoo, Moon Police bike and helmet giveaway and fitting, and more. The Moon Historical Society will offer tours of the Coventry Log Cabin, and you can catch up on the efforts of local environmental and trail groups.

Kenny Ross Toyota Film Fest Returns in May

MCA-TV is pleased to present the 2017 Kenny Ross Toyota Film Fest on Saturday, May 13. The deadline to submit an entry is May 8.

Local and regional filmmakers are invited to submit an original film of any length and genre. Submissions will be judged by a panel of film experts from the Pittsburgh area.

Robin Hill Lunchtime Concert Series

Rain Barrel Workshop

The "Build Your Own Rain Barrel" workshop scheduled for April 27th at the North Fayette Township Municipal Building is sold out, so a second workshop has been scheduled to accommodate demand.

The Western Allegheny Stormwater Awareness Group (WASAG) will host the workshop on Wednesday, May 31. You'll learn about the benefits of a rain barrel, how to maintain it, and at the conclusion, you'll be sent home with your very own barrel.

Moon Township Annual Recycling Day

Mark your calendars for Moon Township's Annual Recycling Day. This event is open to Moon Township residents only. Proper ID is required.

Accepted items include usable construction materials, household appliances, electronics, and some medical supplies.  Only one TV per vehicle will be accepted. 

Items may be dropped off at the Moon Township Municipal Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Moon Township's Environmental Advisory Council, with the assistance of community volunteers, hosts this annual event on the 1st Saturday in June to help keep reusable items out of landfills.
Farmers' Market Returns Wednesdays June-October

The Moon Township Farmers' Market is coming back this summer. Stop by the Moon Township Municipal Building at 1000 Beaver Grade Road on Wednesdays from June through October from 3-6 p.m. All vendors are local and offer only the best, freshest produce. Pick up fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, prepared foods, fresh cut flowers, handmade soaps, and more. The Moon Township Farmers' Market accepts cash, debit and credit cards, and SNAP benefits.

Township of Moon Firecracker 5K Run & Walk

Moon Township Parks and Recreation presents the Firecracker 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, July 1st.
 
The course, entirely within Moon Park, features challenging hills and gently rolling roads. The medals ceremony follows the event, accompanied by music, prizes, giveaways and more.

Can't make it to one of our recycling days? Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.

There are three ways to schedule a collection:

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection.
