Board of Supervisors Highlights

Michele Santicola was sworn into office by Judge Anthony Saveikis on Friday, December 29. " I am honored to serve as a Moon Township supervisor and am looking forward to the many exciting projects on the horizon in our community," said Michele. "I can't wait to see the parks and Miracle League Field projects come to fruition, enhancing our wonderful park. I look forward to working closely with our community and business leaders to help Moon Township continue to grow and thrive and remain a wonderful place to live."  Supervisor John Hertzer was also sworn in for his second term. Both positions are for a term of six years.     

 


Reorganization Meeting
The board held the annual reorganization meeting on January 2. John Hertzer was elected as board chairman and Jim Vitale was elected as vice chairman. Several annual business items were defined, including establishing the time and place for the Board of Supervisors monthly regular and workshop meetings, designating the Allegheny Times as the official newspaper for posting official public notices (the Post-Gazette is the alternate official newspaper for emergency purposes), and appointing official engineering firms and the township solicitor.  Additionally, the board appointed several residents to fill vacancies on the township's numerous volunteer boards and committees. An updated list of committee members will be posted soon on the township website.

The Board of Supervisors regular public meeting is held on the first Wednesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Municipal Building. Watch live on MAG-TV, Comcast channel 18 or Verizon channel 37. The meetings are rebroadcast throughout the month on MAG-TV. Check the website for times. You can also watch a recording online. View the meeting agendas in advance here.
 
Boggs School Road Closed
January 8 - March 2

Boggs School Road will be closed to through traffic for further construction from January 8 to March 2. This construction is necessary to stabilize a slope supporting the road. Additionally,  Nicholson Construction Company is constructing a soil nail wall along the eastern end of Boggs School Road near the Brodhead Road intersection. The western end of Boggs School Road will be open to local traffic. 

Township Offices Closed
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Monday, January 15

Moon Township offices will be closed on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

Winter Weather Reminders

The Moon Township Public Works Department reminds residents that the Code of Ordinances prohibits parking on township roads between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. This is extremely important during winter weather so that road crews can plow the streets without any obstacles. Also, please remember that the code also prohibits plowing or shoveling snow from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks into the streets.


2018 Park Pavilion Rental Information

Reservations accepted beginning February 12


Moon Township residents may reserve pavilions for May through September 2018 beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12 at the Municipal Building, located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. All pavilions and fees are listed at moonparks.org. Beginning February 13, resident reservations may be made at the Moon Parks and Recreation office at Moon Park, located at 1350 Ewing Road. All pavilion rentals must be arranged in person. Please call 412.262.1703 for more information. 
Non-residents may reserve pavilions at the Parks and Recreation office at Moon Park beginning Tuesday, February 20. Please note: Due to Moon Park playground redevelopment, the Saturn pavilion will not be available for rent in 2018.

2018 Robin Hill Center Rentals

Robin Hill Center reservations may be made up to one year to the month in advance. Reservations must be made in person. To receive the resident rate, the contract must be signed and payments made by a Moon Township resident. All fees are listed on the Moon Parks and Recreation website at moonparks.org. Do Something Fun: Volunteer at MCA-TV

There is so much going on in Moon it's hard to keep up. Help MCA-TV document and share these events by taking out a camera and recording an event, a concert, a sporting event or government meeting and help keep the community connected. I f you'd like to get in on the action, sign up for the next television production training course. Classes are free and open to residents of any community.
 
The training course is a series of four hands-on classes providing the basics of camera operation, lighting, audio and editing. Successful completion of the course provides the opportunity to be an official MCA-TV volunteer, ready and able to assist with any MCA-TV production.
 
Classes run from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays for four weeks beginning Thursday, January 25 at the MCA-TV studio located at 1700 Beaver Grade Road, Suite 140, Moon Township, PA 15108. To register, contact MCA-TV Director Allison Eastham at [email protected] or call 412.269.1191.  Space is limited.
Promote Your Non-Profit Organization on 
MCA-TV's Public Awareness Weekend

Join MCA-TV for the annual Public Awareness Weekend scheduled for  March 9-10, 2018. Public Awareness Weekend, is a two-day, 24-hour live television event featuring interview broadcasts with Pittsburgh-area nonprofits. Each group has an opportunity to speak for 30 minutes to educate viewers about their cause and encourage the community to get involved. All interviews air live during the event, and are rebroadcast periodically on MCA-TV, reaching approximately 35,000 households in Moon Township and surrounding areas. Any nonprofit organization interested in participating in Public Awareness Weekend should contact Allison Eastham at [email protected] or call MCA-TV at 412.269.1191. Interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
MTVFC Sportsmen's Bash Returns in April
Saturday, April 21
12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Public Safety Building 


The annual Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company Sportsmen's Bash will be  held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 12-7 p.m. at the Public Safety Building located at 1000 Beaver Grade Road. Tickets, which include food and refreshments, are available for a $30 donation. Contact a fireman or visit one of the fire stations on Mondays at 7 p.m. to obtain a ticket.
MCA-TV's Film Festival Returns
Saturday, May 19

The MCA-TV Film Festival returns in May, marking the seventh year for the competition. Area filmmakers are invited to put their creativity to the test in the following categories: Best Feature Film, Best Documentary Feature Film, Best Narrative Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary Short Film, and Best Narrative Short Film. Last year, thanks to monetary donations from local companies, MCA-TV awarded more than $3,200 in prizes.
 
Enter your original film before the May 10 deadline and watch the event live on MCA-TV on Saturday, May 19. Films will be judged by a panel of film experts from the Pittsburgh area. You do not have to be a Moon Township resident to participate.

Property Tax Information

As you may know, I was re-elected for a third term as the Moon Township property tax collector. Thank you for your support and confidence. I look forward to serving the community for another four years. Never hesitate to contact me or my office if you have any property tax related questions.

2017 Property Taxes
The collection periods for all Moon Township property owners is now closed for the 2017 collection season. The last day the office accepted payments was Tuesday, January 2 due to the last day of collection falling on a Sunday, and Monday was a holiday. The online payments section of the office website closed on December 31, 2018 at midnight. 
 
Delinquent Taxes
Due to the township change of agency collecting delinquent property taxes, all delinquent taxes will now be collected by the Law Offices of Weiss, Burkardt  & Kramer. Please contact that agency directly at 412.391.0160. The Moon Township property tax office has no information once a tax has been turned over to the delinquent agent. 
 
2018 Property Taxes
The property tax office receives the new collection data each year in March. However, the printing company purchases the data from the county by January 10, 2018. If a mailing address needs updated or changed for whatever reason, please contact me, as well as the county treasurer John Weinstein at 412.350.4100, as soon as possible.  The 2018 Township of Moon property tax statements will be sent on April 1, 2018.

Waste Management at Your Door Program

Can't make it to one of our recycling days? Waste Management offers a residential curbside special materials pickup. The "At Your Door Special Collection" program allows most Moon Township residents to easily and safely dispose of household materials.

There are three ways to schedule a collection:

After scheduling your collection date and time, a Waste Management representative will provide you with information and instructions for preparing your collection.
