CHAMBER NEWS

Annual Golf Tournament fights for public safety!

This year's Annual Chamber Golf Tournament has a special purpose, public safety! Crime is a factor that permeates every level of society, and has taken specific aim at businesses in the form of burglaries, wire and car theft. It is more important than ever to pay attention to the ways we counter the efforts of criminals, with increased policing and crime fighting efforts. Unfortunately, as the economy continues to stall, budgets for these essential services are not what they should be!

With that in mind, the Fresno Chamber has dedicated a portion of the proceeds of the annual Golf Tournament to both the Police Chief's and Sheriff's Foundations to help combat theft in our community. The monies will be specifically directed towards more video policing and efforts to reduce metal thefts. There are many ways to get involved beyond coming out for a fun day of golf at San Joaquin Country Club. We are accepting donations for the raffle, which proceeds will go directly to this year's cause. Please contact Melissa Dobson if you'd like more information on how to get involved!

WHAT DID THE CHAMBER DO FOR YOU THIS WEEK?

Last Friday, the Chamber hosted a seminar with legal experts on meal & rest breaks with Marcia Ross, a partner in the law firm of Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo. The major topic of the day revolved around the State Supreme Court recent ruling that they are not the "meal period police". For a full synopsis of the seminar, please click here.

Monday, the Chamber hosted 55 FHA students, giving them an inside look at the local hospitality industry. Big thanks to speakers including Jen Doll, Community Service Rep-Home Instead Senior Care, Gay Fontana, Director of Research & Development-Fresno/Clovis Convention & Visitors Bureau, Don Waddel, Instructor at Institute of Technology, Culinary Arts Division, and Vickie Goudreau of Innovation Commercial Flooring!

Government Affairs

The Chamber PAC has endorsed David Valadao for the 21st, Congressional District.  Currently, Valadao serves in the California Assembly, representing the 30th District.

On Wednesday, April 25th, the Fresno Chamber hosted Assembly Member Shannon Grove, District 32 from Bakersfield, at the Quarterly Central California Chamber Alliance (CCCA) meetingto discuss issues impacting business including over regulation and dysfunctional Sacramento politics.  According to Grove, one way to improve California's business climate is a part time legislature, a proposition currently in the signature gathering phase for qualification for a future ballot. For more information, please click here.
