The 2015 FIA Formula One World Championship was all about Mercedes and their drivers Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Although Ferrari and Red Bull improved their cars throughout the season and the teams using Mercedes power units started the season with a proven package, realistically no-one was going to touch the dominance the German team had established in 2014.

Defending champion Marc Marquez, dominant for the last two years had to watch Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi pile up points during the early part of the season as his own got off to a slow start.
What that meant was fans were treated to absolutely sensational racing as the year progressed as some of the greatest motorcycle riders ever put their hearts and souls and bodies into the chase for points - right down to the last race.
In the end the top two were separated by just seven points.

Tyler Alexander passed away last week. Tyler was one of the last surviving members of the little band that founded Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Limited in the early 1960s and was an
integral part of an organization that won 5 straight
Can Am Championships, 2 Indianapolis 500s and the Formula One Constructors Championship. The American ex-pat
retired in 2009 but sadly suffered a major stroke in 2014. His recovery allowed him to finish his memoir 'A Life and Times at McLaren', which was
published by David Bull last year. In the photo above, Bernie Ecclestone is presented with a copy at a GP last summer.
As a 'professional spectator' in the sixties and seventies, I witnessed Tyler Alexander and Team McLaren at work many times over the years at numerous Can Am weekends and at Indianapolis, but only had the privilege of meeting the man on one occasion.
In the mid-1990s, we released 50 copies of Michael Turner's
'Team Formation' that had been hand signed by Denny Hulme, Dan Gurney, Teddy Mayer, Tyler Alexander, Phil Kerr and Gordon Coppock. The print was published from a painting commissioned by Bruce McLaren in 1969 to commemorate the team's 1-2-3 finish (Bruce, Denny and Dan) in the Michigan Can Am. The image also graced the Team's Christmas card that year.
The photo above shows Tyler adding his signature to the prints as they balanced precariously on a luggage cart at London Heathrow. He interrupted his day at McLaren headquarters in Woking to sign for us. A gracious gesture.
Ron Dennis released this touching eulogy honoring one of racing's behind-the-scenes giants:
"Alongside Bruce McLaren, who founded the McLaren company in 1963, Tyler Alexander was one of the first pillars of our company - working hard alongside Bruce from the very earliest days - and Bruce couldn't have asked for a sturdier pair of shoulders upon which to help build the team's reputation.
"Tyler's skilful yet practical expertise, coupled with his energetic and optimistic attitude, topped off by his infectiously dry and satirical sense of humour, made him both highly successful and hugely popular, whether he was overseeing car-builds in the team's workshop, running race-winning Can-Am and Indy 500 crews, or working with some of the world's greatest drivers and engineers in Formula 1.
"Quite simply, Tyler lived and breathed McLaren - and, following his retirement in late 2008, during which season he attended every Grand Prix and played an important part in securing the team's and Lewis Hamilton's world championship success, he remained a much loved and greatly valued chum to many of us, regularly visiting our Woking factory to catch up with pals old and new. Tyler's was a friendship that you could really rely upon; he was a man who would never let you down.
"In fact, Tyler was one of the finest of the old school: hardy, humble and wise, leaving a reputation and a legacy that will remain indelible in the history of international motorsport.
"So, on behalf of all at McLaren, I'd like to pay heartfelt tribute to one of our team's founding fathers, and to offer our deepest condolences to his many friends and his ever-loving companion, Jane Nottage, who has always stood by him, valiant to the very end."
David Bull published both of Tyler's books. They come highly recommended.

In A Life and Times with McLaren, Tyler Alexander tells the story of his remarkable four-decade career. In 1964 he helped found the McLaren racing team along with Bruce McLaren and Teddy Mayer. As a mechanic, engineer, and team manager, Alexander played a key role in the development of McLaren's cars and the team's early successes in Formula One, the Indianapolis 500, and the Can-Am series.
