NEXT ONE MONDAY IN SOUTHEAST LOS ANGELES

California Community Colleges, in partnership with California Forward and the California Economic Summit, is holding Future of Work MeetUps across the state and inviting workforce development stakeholders to share
observations about the future of work, learn about model workforce development practices and discuss strategies helpful to employers and workers.
The next meetup is Monday (3/5) from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Cerritos Community College, Learning Resource Center Teleconference Center - LC155, 11110 Alondra Blvd., Norwalk, CA 90650. Topics to be discussed include signals on the future of work; implications for employers and workers and overcoming worker barriers to upskilling. Input on priorities and actions also will be requested via live polling.

THE 2018-19 BUDGET: LAO ADULT EDUCATION ANALYSIS
|
The state's Legislative Analyst's Office is
recommending r
evamp
ing funding for adult education and aligning certain policies. In this analysis, the LAO recommends
the Legislature set a uniform per-student funding rate for adult education providers, establish a consistent fee policy (having all providers charge no fee or a nominal fee), and eliminate certain qualifications for adult education instructors.
The LAO also recommends approval of the governor's proposed $5 million augmentation for data alignment but modifying the proposal to require each segment to assign and share student identifiers, which would allow the state and providers to see how students move between the K-12 system, adult schools, and community colleges.

Preliminary Allocation Schedule
Consortium Fiscal Administration Declaration (CFAD)
Beginning in the 2018-19 fiscal year, all AEBG consortia and members will use the NOVA AEBG system to complete their Consortium Fiscal Administration Declaration (CFAD). Over the next few months, consortia and members will be meeting in a public setting to discuss member allocations for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
CFADs are due no later than May 2, 2018. The completed CFAD will include:
1.
Creation of the CFAD showing the 2018-19 distribution of funds to each member of the consortium,
2.
A narrative justifying how the planned allocations are consistent with the extended three-year plan,
3.
Certification by each member of the CFAD information in NOVA,
4.
Designation by the consortium of the fiscal structure for 2018-19 - fiscal agent or direct-funded.
March 9 CFAD Webinar and Data Entry & Certification
A webinar will be held March 9 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. to review and answer questions regarding the CFAD process, the preliminary schedule, the entering of CFAD information into NOVA and the certification of the CFAD by each member.
On March 5, NOVA will upload the AEBG allocations by consortium and open the CFAD tables in NOVA for data entry and certification. CFADs are due no later than May 2, 2018 - there will be no extensions granted. If a consortium fails to meet the May 2 deadline, the state AEBG Office will use the 2017-18 CFAD in its place.
CFAD allocations may be adjusted and amended throughout the program year. However, keep in mind that the state disbursement schedule to direct-funded members cannot be altered during the 11-month (August 2018 to June 2019) allocation of funds process.
Disbursement notes: The AEBG allocations (base + COLA) are provided at the consortium level. Members may choose to provide each member in their consortium an across-the-board increase as a result of the COLA, or members may decide to allocate funds based on community need, and factor in carryover from
the
prior year. Either way is acceptable, but it must have consensus/full agreement by consortium members, who must
sign the CFAD reflecting their approval.

On the first Friday of each month at noon, the Academic Affairs Division will host a Noncredit Community of Practice First Friday webinar. These webinars are part of the Noncredit Community of Practice effort that launched with the inaugural Noncredit Summit held in May 2017. The webinars are conducted in collaboration with noncredit practitioners from ACCE (Association of Community and Continuing Education), ASCCC (Academic Senate for CCC), Career Ladders Project, and the CCC Success Network (3CSN).

EDUCATE & ELEVATE: HIGHLIGHTING ADULT EDUCATORS

Adult educators have a tremendous impact on the lives of adult learners, providing not only instruction but encouragement and support that is critical to seeing them through to the end of a program. Highlighting one or more of your adult education instructors is another way of telling the AEBG story.
Through the use of a Q&A, as one example, you can help to put a face on the educators who work so hard every day to make social mobility possible for thousands of Californians. Among other questions, you might ask why they chose this career path and what is most gratifying about the work they do? Post the Q&A and photo of your chosen instructor(s) to your website, along with the Educate & Elevate logo found on this page (scroll down for logo link), and drive people to your page via posts to Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms.

SPOTLIGHT ON INNOVATION: MARIN COUNTY CONSORTIUM

Many adult learners do not view themselves as potential college students. Adult students often have a misconception about who a typical college student is, which includes age, educational level and future aspirations. Tam Adult School and College of Marin work closely together to change student perceptions and, in doing so, have created designated pathways for advanced studies into community college.
