Coatings and laminates are essential components of high-performance paper-based food packaging and serviceware. Next-generation materials will provide exceptional performance-in-use such as oil, grease and water barriers. They will also enable diverse end-of-life management options such as fiber recycling and composting.

Hear from industry leaders at Jain Chem and NatureWorks about coating and laminate sustainability drivers and customer requirements in an era of fluoro-free sentiment and emerging legislation.

Hands-On Papermaking Course at UW-Stevens Point September 6-7

Students in a recent hands-on course take measurements at the headbox on the
UW-Stevens Point pilot paper machine
The second and final 2018 edition of WIST's highly regarded introduction to papermaking is on tap for September 6-7 at UW-Stevens Point.

If you or someone in your department needs to understand the basics of papermaking, has transferred from another industry, or is new to operations, this is the course you need. Morning classroom sessions are led by Gerry Ring, emeritus professor and former chair of the UW-Stevens Point Paper Science and Engineering Program. We'll cover aspects ranging from tree anatomy (hardwoods and softwoods) to pulping and stock preparation to equipment and terminology. In the afternoon, course participants operate our Fourdrinier pilot paper machine guided by Ring and other WIST/UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff.

Whether you work directly in papermaking or in a business that supplies to the industry, this course in just two days will help you gain foundational knowledge of the commercial papermaking process.
