Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E)
Expanding real estate/equipment in Morgan County?
A tax phase-in (abatement) is an economic development tool utilized by local government to assist business and property owners when making a capital investment. The goals of these incentives are to expand the tax base, to create and retain good paying jobs, and to diversify the local economy.

Tax phase-ins do not provide a 100% abatement of property taxes each year. The increase in the assessed value due to the project will gradually phase in over a one to ten year period. The incentives must be requested prior to starting the project.

Depending on the jurisdiction, companies in Morgan County may qualify for tax phase-ins on investments in both real property (projects involving new construction, expansion, or renovation) and personal property (projects involving the acquisition and installation of new manufacturing equipment, research and development equipment, logistical distribution equipment, and information technology equipment).

Business Walk in Flagstaff Business Park
EDC Board President, Terry Brock, and Mooresville Town Council President, Mark Mathis, accompanied EDC staff on a business walk through Flagstaff Business Park in Mooresville on April 23rd. The morning was dedicated to understanding the immediate needs of Flagstaff companies and to thank them for choosing to make Morgan County their home. The EDC's first business walk was conducted last autumn in the Martinsville Industrial Park.

EDC conducting local Wages & Benefits Survey
Wages & benefits data have not been collected on a county-wide level for several years. As many local employers have requested this information recently, the EDC has launched a Wages & Benefits Survey to gather feedback from Morgan County's largest employers. Responses will be anonymously aggregated and help employers understand where we are as a community in terms of pay, benefits, skills, occupations, education, transportation, and other areas.
Group discussions for local HR representatives
Quarterly group discussions bringing together Human Resources representatives from companies located in Morgan County have begun. Hosted by the EDC but guided by the group participants, the meetings are strictly limited to local employers, ensuring that professionals involved with hiring and managing employees can come together for informal, candid discussions regarding challenges and opportunities with our workforce.
Workforce Development
MSD of Martinsville seeking feedback
As the MSD of Martinsville moves forward, they would like parents, staff, students, and community input to help determine how to allocate funding and goals for the future. These insights will help with future visioning and direction for the district in facilities, curriculum, and student environment.  Take the survey
