BUSINESS ATTRACTION
LEADS STATS - JANUARY 2016
NEW SIGNAGE AT WESTPOINT BUSINESS PARK
The Westpoint Business Park includes 550+ prime acres designed for global logistics, located in the heart of Central Indiana's transportation, distribution, and logistics region. Westpoint is situated at the intersection of Interstate 70 and State Road 39 in Morgan and Hendricks Counties, only nine miles from the Indianapolis International Airport, which hosts the second largest FedEx air cargo hub in the world, and within 12 miles of the CSX Hoosier Inland Port, providing intermodal rail service to and from Pacific Ocean ports.
INDY REGION TARGETING MORE FOREIGN INVESTMENT
The Washington D.C.-based Brookings Institution has selected Indianapolis to take part in an effort designed to attract and leverage direct foreign investment. The Indy metropolitan area is among six that will develop a Global Trade and Investment Strategy as part of the Global Cities Initiative.
BUSINESS RETENTION & EXPANSION (BR&E)
DEFELICE ENGINEERING
Although computerization has infiltrated the industry, DeFelice Engineering, Inc. has taken what they believe is the best of traditional metal working and combined it with the new to create something that is really unique - and makes them stand out from the competition.

"We can take a sketch and turn it into a part in five hours," said Brian DeFelice, who turned the business over to son Matt as of January 1st. "You don't do that at big companies. We specialize in maintenance work and one-off pieces. We can make replacement parts that are no longer available in the market. We keep machines running for our customers."

ECONOMIC TOOLS & INCENTIVES

Local incentives are available to encourage new developments that meet a certain threshold of capital investment and job creation. Companies should contact Morgan County EDC as early as possible prior to the anticipated start date of their project.

Companies may qualify for tax phase-ins (abatements) on Morgan County capital investments in both real property (new construction or expansion) and personal property (new manufacturing, R&D, distribution, and IT equipment). The approval process takes approximately six weeks.

The Town of Mooresville, City of Martinsville, and Morgan County governments have also designated  Tax Increment Financing (TIF)  areas to enable support for economic development projects through infrastructure improvements and/or workforce training.

The Revolving Loan Fund is our in-house microloan program providing small and emerging businesses in Morgan County's rural areas with low-interest loans up to $25,000 for fixed assets, machinery and equipment, and working capital.

SAVE THE DATE! MORGAN COUNTY JOB FAIR
Know someone looking for a job? Morgan County EDC will host a job fair on Tuesday, March 15th at the Morgan County Fairgrounds in Martinsville. The event will run from 12pm-8pm in the Auditorium.

MILLENNIALS  OUTNUMBER BOOMERS
An unremarked milestone has occurred nationally and in Indiana. The iconic baby-boom generation was outnumbered by a new generation, the millennials.

Millennials, those born from 1982 to 2000, make up more than a fourth of Indiana's total population. The boomers, on the other hand, are now slightly less than one-fourth of the population. At opposite ends of the millennials and the boomers, we have the 13 and younger folks with 18 percent of the population and the 69 and older group at a mere 10 percent.

SPRINGS OF MOORESVILLE NOW OPEN
Hoosiers looking for resident-centered, state-of-the-art health care have a new option in Morgan County. The Springs of Mooresville provides transitional care (short-stay rehabilitation and therapy) in a service-rich environment. The Mooresville Redevelopment Commission provided a grant of $700,000 for infrastructure assistance.

CONSULTANT COMES TO DEFENSE OF TIF
The president of Indianapolis-based KSM Location Advisors says, when used correctly, Tax Increment Financing Districts can be "game-changing" tools for local governments. Culp calls TIFs a "critically important" tool for local government, which she says often don't have many other options for economic development incentives.

STRENGTHENING INDIANA ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
When you read about a new corporate expansion project in an Indiana community or successful job initiative, do you ever wonder how that really came about? To get to the point where a grand public announcement about new jobs and new investment is even possible, dedicated economic development professionals - whom you rarely hear about - will likely have played a critical role in facilitating these opportunities.

WATER AND ITS IMPORTANCE TO THE STATE OF INDIANA
Key criteria in site selection decisions nearly always include line items for electricity, water, and sewer costs. The availability, reliability, and cost of energy are a few of the factors that weigh heavily in the corporate location decision making process. The dependable availability of water in Indiana has helped shaped the manufacturing powerhouse it is, but also must be protected carefully to ensure the future of the resource and the state's economic base.

INVESTOR SPOTLIGHT
CITIZENS BANK
Whether you're buying a home, growing a business, or just looking for a solid checking account, Citizens is here to help. They offer a full range of banking services-the kind you'd typically expect from larger, national banks. But here's the real difference: they pair those services with local, personal service. And that's why people like them.

Citizens Bank was founded in 1931. The Great Depression was in full swing and banks across America were closing their doors. Rather than surrender to hard times, a few dedicated locals banded together to create a new kind of bank-one that put people over profits. Fittingly, they named their new bank Citizens.
