Summer 2012
2012 PEAK SEASON!
We know it has been a long time since we sent out our last email and for that we apologize. The shop is busier than ever and we have never had more bookings than in the past 7 months. This year we have been fortunate to hire a much larger staff to help accommodate more anglers on the water and in the shop. We now have 8 guides on staff and 5 employees at the shop. Brian and I have been very fortunate to find such an incredible crew of dedicated "fishy" guys to help the shop grow. For a quick recap, this past winter was one of the mildest we have experienced in quite some time. This kept us on the water pursuing musky and trout November-March. The spring season kept us busier than ever with quality water flow and incredible weather. After rescheduling more than 90 trips in April of 2011, the weather this spring was much welcomed. We had very little cancellations this spring do to foul weather. Currently our trout fishing is slowing down in the mountains as excessive heat and low water are the norm. However the spring creek trout fishing has been excellent and the terrestrial fishing is in full swing. The bass fishing on the Shenandoah has been wonderful this year and we now have 2-3 boats out daily until the fall. If you haven't been out yet this year for big browns, rainbows, or smallmouth, give us a call or shoot us an email quickly as our peak season days are now numbered. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the past few years. As always it will be our mission to ensure our customers and clients receive the best possible service on the water and in the shop. Thanks again for making the 2012 season our BEST ever in the past 9 years!

Mossy Creek Fly Fishing's Streamside Seminar

Tenkara Fishing on Spring Creeks

Here at Mossy Creek Fly Fishing our experience and knowledge is as important to our customers as the products we sell. It is as much a reason for our success as the high quality gear and accessories we offer. We are always looking for fun and innovative ways to share that knowledge with our customers both new and old.

Please join us on Friday, July 27th, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM or Wednesday, August 22nd, from 6:00-8:00PM for a streamside seminar with our in-house tenkara guide Tom Sadler. Colby, Brian and Tom will be giving presentations and demonstrations on using a tenkara outfit for fishing on spring creeks.

This year, tenkara has exploded in our region. Tenkara outfits are the hottest selling items in the store. Not a day goes by when we don't get asked about it.

During the summer our local spring creeks are a spectacular fishing option. On the water we manage, big bugs and big fish are the rule. Using a tenkara outfit has proven to be an exciting and highly effective way to catch big browns and 'bows.

This "hands-on" seminar will give you a chance to:

* Cast the full range of Tenkara USA rods and learn which rod is best for different fishing conditions.

* Learn about the different types and lengths of line and which one is best to use for various fishing conditions.
* Learn about setting up your tenkara outfit for spring creeks.
* Learn the "go-to" flies for the various summer spring creek hatches.

* Learn tips, tactics and techniques for successfully fishing spring creeks.

Space is limited to 15 participants so register early! The cost is $35 person at time of sign up with Visa or Mastercard, first come - first served.

To sign up, call the store at 540-434-2444

Foul weather will result in cancellation and full refund of the cost of the seminar.

Rio Tenkara Line

NEW Tenkara Floating Double Taper Lines are here!

We have been testing some custom-made Rio lines on Mossy and believe they are terrific for our local spring creeks and mountain streams. These super light floating lines have a short taper at each end and cast like a dream!

These special lines combine the presentation qualities of the traditional tenkara line with the casting "feel" of traditional fly line.

Each line is 35 feet long and because they are a double taper you can make two lines from each one. This let's you customize the line lengths to suit your fishing situation and casting style.

We have a limited number of these on hand at just $28.95. Call the shop or order on-line before they are gone. We will be posting setup suggestions and tips on our web site. Watch for it.
