Hyde Park Farmer's Market Begins May 17-Oct 2015!
The Spicy Olive Hyde Park will begin Farmer's Market Hours on Sunday May 17, 2015. We will be open from 9:30 am-3:00 pm every Sunday! We are looking forward to seeing everyone outside & in the store! Get ready for some great recipes to sample from The Spicy Olive! We will also be at Austin Landings's Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings starting in June!

Happy May! Good weather is finally here to stay!
This month starts out with Kentucky Derby, Cinco be Mayo and Mother's Day and ends with Memorial Day and the start to summer. In between all that, we have the end of school and Graduations! What a busy but fun month! The Spicy Olive has great gifts for Mom on Mother's Day and lots of great ideas for food for your various May celebrations! Stop in this month and make your mom happy!
  The Spicy Olive, West Chester and Hyde Park, will be closed on Sunday, May 10, 2015 to spend Mother's Day with our families and on Monday, May 25, 2015 in observance of Memorial Day.

 All of our fresh northern hemisphere oil are here! We now have a Manzanillo from Spain with a 710 polyphenol count, the highest ever at The Spicy Olive! A Robust Coratina from Italy just arrived this week as well. We have an Arbequina from Spain, an Arbequina, Arbosano and Mission from California. A Corbrancosa from Portugal among others!  A Third Location Coming for The Spicy Olive!
 A new Spicy Olive location is coming to Austin Landing (south of Dayton) ! The store is under construction and it looks like the Grand Opening will be mid-late June. Spicy Olive Employee, Randy Dunlap, rides Cross Country for MS
Randy has been part of The Spicy Olive family since Dec. 2013 and we all are behind him in his endeavor to ride his bicycle across the US! Randy has pedaled 1000 miles and is 1/3 of the way across the US. He is in the New Mexico/Texas area and the  weather has not been cooperating lately as it has been in the 40's with wind and sleet! Beauty Regime Recipes:
Here is a unique idea to pamper Mom! 
Make a great face wash using our local honey and fresh olive oils. Honey promotes skin healing and has natural antimicrobial properties. Olive oil is full of antioxidant vitamins A & E and is a great  moisturizer!
Just use a teaspoon of honey and add a few drops of Lemon or Blood Orange olive oil to the honey. Mix together and rub on your face to clean. Use a little olive oil as a moisturizer after washing!

Spicy Olive Salt or Sugar Scrub
Fill decorative jar with coarse sea salt or sugar crystals. Fill jar with The Spicy Olive's Lemon or Blood Orange olive oil and put on lid. Mom can use a small spoon to scoop out a little into the palm of her hand and exfoliate away any rough spots on her hands as she washes! The Lemon or Blood Orange oil leaves hands with a great fresh scent!


The Spicy Olive Citrus Salad
Featuring The May Flavors of the Month
2 Tbsp walnuts or pecans, chopped
6-8 oz. mixed field greens
2 naval oranges, peeled and sectioned
1 large grapefruit, peeled and sectioned
1 pear, peeled and thinly sliced
1 cup seedless grapes, halved
Dressing:
1/4 cup The Spicy Olive's Grapefruit white balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup The Spicy Olive's Milanese Gremolata or Blood Orange olive oil
1/2 teas salt & pepper each
3 Tbsp Orange juice or Grapefruit juice
Mix salad greens and fruit in a salad bowl. Whisk together ingredients except for the olive oil. Add oil in steady stream, whisking constantly until well incorporated. Pour over salad and serve.

The Spicy Olive Asian Chicken Salad

1/4 cup The Spicy Olive's Japanese Roasted Sesame oil
6 Tbsp. The Spicy Olive's Honey Ginger balsamic 
1/4 cup The Spicy Olive's Mild Single Varietal olive oil
2 Tbsp Steinke's local honey
1/2 tsp pepper
4 cups cooked chicken
2  3 oz package ramen noodles
1 pkg Dole shredded Asian slaw blend
3/4 cup toasted almond slivers
3-4 green onions, chopped
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds
1 small can mandarin oranges, drained
In a small bowl, whisk together sesame oil, olive oil, Honey ginger balsamic, honey, salt, pepper and 1/2 of 1 flavoring packet from ramen noodles. Set aside.
Crush ramen noodles and place in salad bowl and coat with 1/3 of salad dressing. Add chicken, slaw mix, almonds, green onions, and sesame seeds to noodle mixture and mix well. Add remaining salad dressing. Chill before serving.
** This is a great salad for Mother's Day get togethers or Memorial Day picnics!

May 6, 2015 Rita will be at The West Chester store with a Mother's Day theme for her class.The menu includes: Goat cheese with sin dried tomato and rosemary tapenade, Herb Rubbed Grilled Chicken Breast with Watermelon/Mango salsa, Spring salad with Raspberry balsamic dressing, Lemon Mousse with Fresh Berries
J une 10, 2015 Rita will be at The Hyde Park store with a Father's Day theme. The menu includes: Beer Cheese with crackers, Marinated Flat Iron Steaks with thyme, garlic, parsley and Romano cheese shreds, Four Bean Salad with Grilled Corn, and Blackberry Cobbler.
   The cost for these classes is $45 per person.

The menu includes Sauteed Shrimp, panzanella, asparagus, peas, Piquillio puree with Sicilian Lemon white balsamic, Field greens with honey roasted pear ,mozzarella with Grapefruit white balsamic vinaigrette, Sous Vide Chicken breast marinated with Mandarin olive oil, Sauteed Broccolini drizzled with Baklouti Green chili oil and Roasted Yukon Gold potatoes. Try the Citrus Salad recipe above or put the two together on fish and grill! Try the Grapefruit white balsamic in a Summer Sipper. Simply mix 2 teaspoons or more to taste of the Grapefruit balsamic with La Croix Grapefruit sparkling water or Squirt soft drink if you prefer a sweeter cocktail over ice. Add 1-2 oz of vodka and stir. Enjoy!
