The 100 Year Old National Parks Story
In 2016 the Centennial celebrates the achievements of the past 100 years, but it is really about the future. It's about kicking off a second century of stewardship for America's national parks and for communities across the nation.  Most importantly, it's about inviting everyone to join in the appreciation of the Great Outdoors.

The National Park Service and National Park Foundation are working closely with partners and stakeholders across the country to ensure that the Centennial is more than a birthday. People everywhere are encouraged to embrace the opportunities to explore, learn, be inspired or simply have fun in their 407 national parks, as well as understand how the National Park Service's community-based recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs positively impact their own communities.

In June some NSB Foundation directors will join our federal partners at the IPW 2016 Conference in Louisiana to share their story which links dynamically to our story to have our respective collections recognized and valued worldwide. The Great Outdoors Zone will showcase multiple Scenic Byways Read More .

Social Media Tip:
Include Videos into your Facebook Postings!

There's a new statistic out that says:
There were over 4.4 million videos uploaded directly to Facebook in February 2016, generating over 199 billion views. (Source:  ReelSEO)

Video marketing is a powerful tool that personalizes your brand and increases conversions. So many of us are afraid to shoot a little, short video on our phones. What's important to remember is that if you create compelling content and post it on your Facebook page, your fans will engage with it in the form of shares, likes, and comments.
Your videos don't need to be long, they just need to be interesting.

Here are some ideas of videos you might shoot:
  1. Go behind the scenes to show viewers what it takes to do something along your Byway.
  2. Show a small part of an event happening along your Byway.
  3. Stop in at a business along the Byway.
  4. Show activities that can happen along your Byway like bird watching or bicycling.
  5. Film people enjoying the Byway.
  6. Show the weather along the Byway.
  7. Highlight animals found along the Byway.
It doesn't take much to shoot just a few seconds of video and the payoff, especially on Facebook, is BIG.

For ideas on editing short videos, Social Media Examiner has a post that you might find helpful regarding making videos on a budget and using the free editing tool that YouTube provides.  Often times, if you're shooting short videos, you won't even have to edit them.

Ten Towns That Changed America
Around the Nation

Scenic America has recently published, "Taking the Long View: A Proposal Realizing America the Beautiful." Ronald Lee Fleming, FAICP, Chairman suggests groups focus policy attention on the visual environment. It comes fifty years after the White House Conference
on Natural Beauty, the last time that the federal government seriously addressed issues that affect the look and feel of our country. Although the proposals then were seen as visionary in their time, the recommendations that Scenic America shares today, learning from the experience of fifty years, are often bolder yet with a pragmatism that should sustain them. The Foundation seeks to further its partnerships with organizations with similar missions to our own. Read More.
