MUSIC TIME ACDEMY AROUND THE WEB

Greetings!

Hello and Happy March & St. Patrick's Day from all of us here at Music Time Academy!

Yet another fantastic month has gone by, as we prepare for more excitement this Spring and Summer. In a couple of weeks, we plan to move the retail store and office into the front room, opening up yet another large, private space for an additional lesson studio. Once the office and store are moved, the new lesson space will be of equal size to the large back lesson room, allowing for another area that can accommodate a piano, and drum set. When the new room is up and running, we will be welcoming more available days for some of our current instructors, plus a space for new instructors and new group lesson programs. We hope you are as excited as we are for this small expansion to offer more flexibility to you!

And now...some exciting news, including the Spring Concert, and our featured Student and Teacher of March 2013!
Spring Concert 2013
We could not be more excited to announce our Spring Concert for May 5th, 2013 at the Bothwell Arts Center in Livermore. We will run this concert similarly to our Winter Concert, dividing up the afternoon into two segments, the Recital portion (for instrumental solos & small ensembles in classical, acoustic, folk, pop and similar genres) and the Showcase portion (for voice, electric instruments, full drum set, and bands in the rock, pop, and similar genres). Please see the Concert announcement above for more information. There is never a cost to participate (besides lots of practice time), but all interested students must notify their instructors and sign up with the administrative office in person, or via phone or email by no later than SUNDAY, APRIL 28th.

Liam came to Music Time Academy as a beginner in early 2012, after receiving a gift certificate for the holidays. Liam started out with hesitation toward music, learning ukulele in shared lessons with his mother. After a rough start, he has since completely turned around and is now in love with his instruments. After several months of ukulele lessons, Liam switched to piano and became "supercharged", zipping through his piano books. Instructor Tim describes Liam as, "a natural talent". At the start of 2013, Liam added saxophone lessons with Alex and is going strong! We find Liam an inspiration to students (and parents), illustrating that although some do not start with great enthusiasm, with a little perseverance, anyone can learn to love music.

Teacher Feature
For March, we would like to highlight trumpet, piano & bass instructor, Will Magid! Studying ethnomusicology at UCLA, Will has since toured the globe, performing music on every continent (except Antarctica). With some exciting upcoming performances at the New Parish in Oakland (opening for famous New Orleans Trumpeter, Kermit Ruffins) and the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Will is also working on developing an iPhone app called Tune Atlas, intended to help users discover music from around the world.

Curious about Will's music? Check out the story of a new release, The Kid (Feat. The Royals). Will tells the story, "Last year, while volunteering at a school in Ghana, a few students started repeatedly chanting "Uncle Willy Blow Your Trumpet!" -- they clearly needed a study break. I happily (with no other option) joined them with my horn and, before long, the room was full of clapping, singing, trumpeting, and drumming. It was quite a scene! We were luckily able to record the experience. The song is now finished (with the live recording as the foundation) and available for you to enjoy. 100% of the proceeds go directly to their school."
