Calling all actors! Shelby County Players will be holding auditions for
A Night of One Acts on Tuesday, August 9th at 6:30 p.m. at SCP Offstage, 1416 Miller Ave., Shelbyville. There are several fun and exciting roles to choose from, so check out these titles! Crew positions are also available.
Performances will take place Friday and Saturday, September 23rd and 24th at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand Theatre.
Ferris Wheel by Mary Miller
Directed by Rachel Scudder
Synopsis:
Funny and touching, the play is the unlikely love story of two lonely people who are forced to ride together on an old country Ferris wheel. She's afraid of heights. He's afraid to give up smoking. They are both afraid of each other.
Casting needs:
One female and one male, both about the same age, able to play somewhere between mid-forties and mid-sixties.
Characters:
Dorie: She is single and has never been married. She is afraid of heights and once a year faces her fear by riding the Ferris wheel on her birthday. She is very talkative and not overly self-confident.
John: He is single and divorced. He is a traveling salesman who happens to notice the Ferris wheel as he's driving by and decides to visit the fair. He is a smoker who believes he really should give the habit up.

Synopsis:
Compulsion
deals with a distraught young husband whose wife is planning to divorce him because of his over-energetic sexual demands. He persuades a long absent visiting friend to pose as a priest and talk sense to her--which works beautifully until she catches on. Whereupon she turns the tables on hubby in hilarious fashion.

Two males, one female, ranging from mid 20s to mid 30s
Characters:
Scotty McDonald: Energetic young man (20s or 30s) exuding charm and animalism
Joe Frasier: Friend of Scotty, slightly older, slightly more conservative

A Mad Breakfast by I. M. Gray

Synopsis: A classic one-act farce from Vaudeville days, set in a boarding house. Practical jokers Mr. Jones and Miss Brown tell each of the guests that wealthy visitor Mr. Long is especially interested in their individual hobbies. They also tell Mr. Long that the boarding house is a lunatic asylum. Hilarity ensues as chaos tops confusion, soon causing Mr. Long to fear for his life. The madness culminates in a crazy séance. Considered by many to be one of the funniest one-acts ever written.
Casting Needs:
Four males, six females, ages 18 and older.

Synopis:
This play about the Beatles is basically a conversation between John Lennon and Paul McCartney about replacing their Bass player, Stu, and who on earth they are going to get to replace him. Stu has decided to stay behind in Hamburg after their tour in Germany and get married....and he didn't like Paul taking the piss out of him all the time. A fast paced funny play by best-selling playwright Morley Shulman, with snappy lines in the style of the classic Beatles films such as ' A Hard Day's Night.'
Casting needs:
Three men, all are in their late teens to early twenties and should resemble the Beatles

John Lennon: A young, musically-talented trouble maker
Paul McCartney: Raised in a traditional working class family. Always singing and writing music George Harrison: The son of an Englishman who started writing music when he was 7 years old
