RELAY TEAM INFORMATION
Important Timing Information
for Relay Teams
Each Relay Team member will receive a bib with the team name on it. None of these bibs will have the timing chip attached to it. Your team will also receive ONE bib with the word "TIMING" on it. This timing bib has a timing chip attached to the back and it will be attached to a belt. This belt will have to be passed & worn by each member of the team while running their respective legs. For example, if you are running "Leg 1", you will wear the belt with the timing bib and after you are done with your leg, you will then pass it to your team member who is running "Leg 2", etc. Whoever is running the final leg needs to be wearing this belt to be sure that your team time registers at the finish line.  The timing belt will be collected at the finish line.
Relay Course
The Team Relay course is the same as the marathon course. Participants must have a minimum of three or a maximum of four runners per team. Distances covered by each relay runner differ slightly. If a team consists of three members, one member will be required to run two relay leg distances (they can be consecutive legs but they do not have to be).

Each relay exchange point will have water available for Relay participants & porta-potties.

The Relay exchanges are:

1st Leg:  Start Line to O'Rorke Bridge (approx 5.5 miles)

2nd Leg:   O'Rorke Bridge to Maplewood Rose Garden (approx 5.5 miles)

3rd Leg:   Maplewood Rose Garden to O'Rorke Bridge (approx 7 miles)

4th Leg:   O'Rorke Bridge to Finish (approx 8 miles)

Parking at Relay Exchange Points
The two Relay exchange points are the O'Rorke Bridge and the Maplewood Rose Garden.   Shuttle Buses from Frontier Field will be provided (more information below).  If Relay participants prefer to drive to their exchange or get dropped off, there is parking available at both locations. Please see below:

O'Rorke Bridge
The Relay area can be accessed from Marina Drive (off Pattonwood). Drive to the end of Marina and instead of turning left and going under the bridge, turn to the right and use the parking lot of Voyager Boat Sales. There will be no parking allowed under the bridge or by the docks. Volunteers will be there to assist you with where it is safe to park. Click here to see a detailed map of the O'Rorke Bridge Relay exchange.

Maplewood Rose Garden
There will be no parking allowed in the lot attached to the Rose Garden.  There is a parking lot located on the corner of Driving Park & St. Paul that will have Relay parking.  You will take a very short walk over the Driving Park Bridge to get to the Rose Garden.  Click here to see a detailed map of the Maplewood Rose Garden Relay exchange.

Relay Shuttle Buses
Shuttle Buses will be available to take you to the relay points and to pick up Relay runners and return them to Frontier Field.  Click here for a Relay Shuttle Bus schedule.

We ask that all runners are patient in terms of waiting for the shuttle buses to return you to Frontier Field.  The course must be navigated as safely as possible, so your patience will be greatly appreciated.  Shuttle buses are only for participants that are wearing their race numbers.  No spectators will be allowed on the buses that are designated for the Relay. However, spectators will be allowed on the shuttle buses that are bringing participants to the Starting Line.
PARTICIPANT INFORMATION
Pasta Dinner
There will be a Pasta Dinner special at our host hotel, The Hyatt Regency Rochester (125 East Main Street, Rochester, NY 14604) on Saturday, September 19th from 5:00 - 10:00 pm. The dinner will be located in the Scene on Main Restaurant within the hotel. The cost is $15.00 per person and you can pay for it that night.
Starting Line
The Starting Line is located on Maplewood Drive in Maplewood Park, by the tennis courts. For directions to the Starting Line, click here.  Please see Parking & Shuttles below, for where we suggest that you park race day morning. No cars will be permitted to drive to the Start Line to drop off participants.

Finish Line
The Finish Line is located at Frontier Field, 1 Morrie Silver Way, Rochester, NY 14608.  For directions to the Finish Line and information on parking at the Finish, click here.

Parking & Shuttles for the Start
We advise that participants park at Frontier Field (where the finish line is), where there is plenty of free parking. Shuttle buses will be provided to take you to the Start Line, starting at 5:00 am until 7:00 am.  When you finish the race, you will be right by where you parked your car at Frontier Field. We HIGHLY ADVISE that you do not wait to get on the shuttle buses.  If you wait until the last shuttle bus at 7:00 am, we can not guarantee that you will make it to the Start on time. The race will start promptly at 7:30 am.

Spectators are allowed to take the shuttle buses to the Starting Line.  There will be shuttle service from the Starting Line back to Frontier Field after the race starts.  However, shuttle service back to Frontier Field will only be available immediately following the start.  It will not continue throughout the day.

There will also be parking available in a Kodak Parking Lot, located on Maplewood Drive, between Kheel Street & Hanford Landing.  This is approximately 3/4 of a mile from the Start line. This lot will be open to participants and spectators and there is no charge to park here. Please be advised that if you park here on race morning, no transportation will be provided to bring you back to your car from the finish line.    CLICK HERE to see a map of where this parking lot is located.

No cars will be permitted to drive to the Start Line to drop off participants.

Timing Details
We will be timing the race using the MyLaps BibTag System. Your timing chip is on the back of your bib. By following just a few simple directions you can help make the timing of the race go smoothly:
  • It is very important that the bib is worn on the front torso of each participant. Not on your shorts, or arm, or back or under a jacket. It MUST, MUST, MUST be visible on the front of your torso.
  • Both "net time" (the time from crossing the start line to crossing the finish line) and "gun time" (from the time the gun goes off to crossing the finish line) will be provided in the official results. All awards and placing are determined by the official "gun time". "Net time" is provided for the runner's convenience and is not used for placing or awards.
  • If you lose, forget or misplace your bib on race day, there is a $5.00 replacement fee. No chip, no time.
Lining up at the Start Line
At the Start Line, there will be pillars for 7 min mile, 8 min mile, 9 min mile, etc. It is highly advised and recommended to line up according to the pace you plan on running. Pace leaders will also be interspersed based on these signs denoting what pace they are running for the half and full. Pace leaders will be holding signs themselves denoting their expected finish time and their shirts will have it printed on the back as well. Everyone needs to be lined up by 7:15 am. The race will start promptly at 7:30am.

The Course
A course map can be found on our website here. The MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier. Both the Marathon and Half Marathon courses are USATF certified courses.  The MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon will not have a limit to the number of participants that register this year. The course and support of it will remain in place for seven hours (7:30 am - 2:30 pm).

Course Time Limit
There is a 7-hour course limit for the Full Marathon. If you are not keeping up to pace, you will be allowed to stay on the course, but may be asked to move to the side of the road or sidewalk, so traffic can resume. At this point, the course will no longer be supported by traffic control, Road Marshals, Water Stops or finish line. So please be sure to plan accordingly.

Important Marathon Course Reminder
A reminder for Full Marathoners: on your 2nd loop, you will go into the Riverside Cemetery, and come back out onto Lake Avenue. This is not part of the first loop, only the 2nd.

On Course Services

Water will be available on the course at approximate 1 ½ - 2 mile intervals as well as at the Start/Finish area. Fluid electrolyte drink & Gu Energy Gel will also be available. There will be porta-potties at every water stop. For specific information on where water stops are located and what will be at each, please click here .

Pace Leaders
Pace groups led by experienced pacers for a variety of times will be provided by Fleet Feet Sports. Run with experiences runners on a steady pace and meet your time goal. There is no need to sign up. Just look for the sign for the time you'd like to finish at the starting line. The Pacers will also be wearing Fleet Feet Sports Pace Leader shirts.  Please note: In the end, you are responsible for your own pace and finish time. The Pace Leader is a volunteer role. Participant Photographs
We have partnered with Gameface Media and all participants will get free photo downloads after the race!  The week following the race, you can find the link to the photos here.

Race Day Alteration Policy
To ensure the safety of our participants during the MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon, the Medical Director and Race Director will make decisions regarding the cancellation or alteration of the race when weather or other physical conditions present a danger to participants.  A copy of this policy can be found here. Please be sure to review it. In the event of extreme weather, the race crew members at the water tables will be ready to inform you about conditions that may affect your safety. There will be signs posted at the water stops notifying you of these updates. Please pay attention to these and modify your pace and hydration according to your needs. These volunteers are to assist you in your safety. If you find yourself running in unfavorable conditions, please take the initiative and use your best judgment to take care of yourself on the course.
Race Etiquette
Please remember to be considerate of your fellow participants, especially while on the river path, which is narrow. During this portion, other runners may want to pass, so be sure to move to the side if someone behind you says, "on your left" or "coming through". It's proper race etiquette to let that person through. Headphones are discouraged since they distract you from being able to listen for instructions being called out by Road Marshals or Bike Patrol and from hearing when other runners are trying to get by. Please be sure to pay attention to what is going on around you during the race.

ROAD CLOSURES ON RACE DAY
There will be some road closures & delays the morning of the race. The race begins at 7:30 am on Maplewood Drive in Maplewood Park (by the tennis courts).  But please keep in mind that roads will be re-opened as the final runner passes each checkpoint. We appreciate the efforts of the Rochester & Irondequoit Police Departments, who along with volunteer road marshals will do their very best to lessen the impact to the community while keeping the runners and walkers out of harm's way.

To view the Traffic Advisory Notification,

SOME FINAL REMINDERS
Please give yourself enough time to get on a shuttle to make it to the Starting Line on time.  DO NOT wait until 7:00 am to get on the last shuttle.  We can not guarantee that you will make it to the Starting Line on time.

Remember on race day to wear your Bib Number with the chip attached, it is the only way your time will be accounted for!

Please work with the traffic control entities throughout the race. We want to provide you a safe course.

If at any time you feel you cannot complete the rest of your event, please move to the side, locate a water stop, road marshal or bike patrol and notify them of same. They will take appropriate action.

If a runner is in need of medical attention, please notify the closest traffic control officer, road marshal, bike patrol or water stop and let them make the 911 call. All 911 calls will be made from the Frontier Field Command Post.

If inclement weather occurs, please listen to course closure information from the traffic control officers, road marshals, bike patrol or water tables. They will provide further instructions.

After you cross the finish and receive your medal you will head to the participant post-race area. The refreshments in this area are for participants only, and with your bib number you will have access to them.

Please be aware that dogs are not allowed in Frontier Field.

Please thank all volunteers along the course and at Frontier Field. They have given up their own day to make sure you have a safe and memorable marathon experience.
