Living Deeply: The Art and Science of Transformation

with Cassandra Vieten and Lawrence Ellis

May 4-6, 2012

Esalen Institute, Big Sur, CA

We are each always changing, always growing. But sometimes we encounter moments or periods of life that are so potent, and so full of potential, that they transform our consciousness, fundamentally shifting our worldview, our motives and priorities, and how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world. Where we have been limited, we expand. We become more open, balanced, and aligned with our true values. Compassion for self and others arises more naturally. As described in our book Living Deeply: The Art and Science of Transformation in Everyday Life, researchers at the Institute of Noetic Sciences have for over a decade examined how these transformations happen and how they can lead to greater meaning, joy, and purpose. Experience what we've learned in this workshop blending information, exploration, and deep practice.

September 23-28, 2012

Lucca, Italy

Join the Director of Research and the Senior Scientist at the Institute of  Noetic Sciences for a week-long tour of the frontiers of consciousness research. Learn how studies of extended human capacities are revealing evidence for a physical basis for subjective experiences of  interconnectedness. Experience how consciousness interacts with the physical world, and how consciousness can transform in ways that profoundly influence our view of the world, enhancing meaning, purpose, and quality of life. Learn practical ways to engage these dimensions in your work with patients and in your everyday life.  CME and CE for physicians, psychologists, MFT, etc available. In collaboration with Pronto Seminars

Institute of Noetic Sciences

The Institute of Noetic Sciences, where I do most of my work, is a great resource for research on worldview, interconnectedness, extended human capacities, consciousness and healing, and transformation. With a rich website, great eNews and print publications, engaging educational programs for kids and adults, a global community, and a stunning retreat center an hour north of San Francisco, IONS is a place where science and wisdom come together to tackle the big questions and to enhance well-being and quality of life for all.

If you are not a member, or have let your membership lapse, join today , and consider supporting our work   in your end of year giving.

With best wishes for the holidays,

Cassi

FAVORITES

Just for fun, here are just a few of my favorite things this year...

Academic Freedom
I loved that Daryl Bem's paper on precognition / retrocausation was published this year in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. I co-presented with him at a very well-attended session at the Society for Experimental and Social Psychology in October. Our IONS research team's paper on presentiment in meditators was published this year too.

Buddha's Brain
I enjoyed speaking with Rick Hanson this year at the IONS Conference. Check out his new book based on his popular eNewsletter Just One Thing. He'll be teaching an online course at IONS this coming year.

Being Human
Peter Baumann is a friend and colleague who wrote a provocative book with Michael Taft called Ego this year, and is launching a cool new initiative called Being Human.

Awakening Joy
James Baraz has put together an accessible and fun course to cultivate all the good stuff - love, joy, compassion, gratitude, etc.. It's starting up again in January 2012.

Raising Happiness
Christine Carter's blog, book, and classes are great resources for parents who want to raise happy kids..

Wicked
I know I'm way behind the curve here, but seeing Wicked on Broadway with my daughter and mom during a trip to the Museum of Motherhood in New York City (also very cool), was another reminder that each story changes dramatically depending on your perspective.

Worldview
On that note, our 18-lesson Worldview Literacy program on consciousness for high school students at the Institute of Noetic Sciences is awesome! If you know any classrooms that might be interested in participating, send them to us.
Teacher trainings coming soon.

Centering Prayer
I had the privilege this year of once again visiting Snowmass, CO to spend time with a group of scientists and Father Thomas Keating, an 88 year-old Trappist monk who is helping to revive Christian contemplative practice. Meditation is not just for Buddhists!
