"in the alternation of night and day, in the rain God provides, sending it down from the sky and reviving the dead earth with it, and in His shifting of the winds there are signs for those who use their reason." ~ Qur'an 45:5
Yesterday, Attorney General, Jeff Sessions announced that
DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program was rescinded.
The DACA program was a compromise devised by the Obama administration after Congress failed to pass the so-called Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors (Dream) Act, which would have offered those who had arrived illegally as children the chance of permanent legal residency. The bipartisan act was first introduced in 2001 and has repeatedly failed to pass.
What does this mean to the approximately
800 thousand Dreamers who have lived in the U.S. since childhood and know no other home? Many of them are adults who are contributing to their
communities and the local economy. With this latest announcement, their legal status will expire in March 2018, unless
congress passes legislation allowing them to remain in the U.S.
You can help these 800 thousand Dreamers to stay in their homes by
contacting your local representatives in Washington, D.C. and tell them to pass legislation to allow these children a chance at permanent legal residency.
