On the evening of May 15th, over 300 guests joined NAAAP-NY in celebration of Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) Heritage Month at the second annual Cherry Blossom Cocktail Party. Against the elegant backdrop of Japan Society, revelers enjoyed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails over conversation while partaking in the Treasures of Japan art exhibit from the Brooklyn Museum.
Sprinkled throughout the evening were cultural performances by NYC Girls Dance, who showcased some graceful Asian dances, while the NYU Rhythm Impulse (NYURI) got everyone into the Heritage Month spirit with lively beats from their poongmul drums.
Our special guest, Congressman Charles Rangel, took to the podium to give tribute to APIA Heritage Month and to express his support of the Asian-American community.
Guests also got to pose for fun photos with heritage-related props at the photobooth and indulged in a bit of hand print art, which garnered a $3 per hand print donation made by Wells Fargo towards the 'For Philippines With Love' campaign, a disaster relief fundraiser that benefits the Philippines' recovery efforts.
By all accounts, it was a spectacular evening, and we'd like to thank all our guests, as well as our co-hosts: Deutsche Bank Multicultural Partnership, China Institute Young Associates & Asian Mentoring Committee of Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York; and our community partners: JPMorgan AsPIRE, Wells Fargo Asian Connection, Marks Paneth & Shron & TAP-NY.
