Urgent Action Needed NOW!!!
Tell the Governor That Correction Officers and Staff Need Proper Training to Address Inmates With Mental Illness and Reduce Suicide.

A836/S663 is sitting on Governor Cuomo's desk awaiting his signature.
This important piece of legislation would mandate that correction officers and staff receive annual suicide prevention training and training on how to generate the best outcomes when dealing with inmates who have a mental illness.
NAMI-NYS strongly supports this important initiative. Click here to read the letter of support we sent to Governor Cuomo. We urge our members to contact the Governor and tell him to help people living with a mental illness who are incarcerated.
NAMI-NYS has worked hard to establish much needed reforms for the corrections system to address the estimated 60% of inmates living with a mental illness.
