National Academies of Practice - New Leadership Elected for 2017

At their recent fall retreat, the NAP Council elected new leadership for 2017. Jody Frost, PT, DPT, PhD, FNAP (Physical Therapy Academy) was named President-Elect and Victor Bray, MSC, PhD (Audiology Academy) was named  Treasurer. B oth officers will begin their term at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting and Forum in March. Congratulations to these NAP Fellows who bring a wealth of experience from their professions and through their involvement with NAP.

NAP Proclamation Displayed at JCIPE
The NAP proclamation of April as National Interprofessional Healthcare Month was on display at the Jefferson Center for Interprofessional Education Conference in Philadelphia at the end of October.  This annual event is attended by educators, clinicians, practitioners, researchers, health system leaders, policymakers, patient organizations, students, and other interested stakeholders in the health and social services arena.  Founded in 2007, the JCIPE is one of the premier interprofessional education centers in the U.S. which offers robust training's and educational opportunities to help support emerging priorities in healthcare. The NAP Proclamation was established last spring and presented at the 2016 Annual Meeting & Forum.  NAP seeks to bring all disciplines together to recognize and celebrate interprofessional care each April.  Read the full proclamation here


NAP President Receives APHA Award
Satya Verma,  OD, FAAO, FNAP, Diplomate, NAP President, was awarded the Vision Care Section Distinguished Service Award at this year's APHA meeting.   The Distinguished Service Award is the highest honor the Section can bestow and is presented to a person, institution or group who has made an outstanding contribution or demonstrated continual high quality service in the area of public health eye/vision care.  The award was presented at the annual Vision Care Section Eye Opener & Award Ceremony on Tuesday November 1, 2016 in Denver.

The Nicholas Andrew Cummings Award
Awarded to a member of a NAP Academy who has demonstrated outstanding or extraordinary contributions to interprofessional healthcare

Interdisciplinary Group Recognition Award
Given annually to groups who have made enduring contributions to interdisciplinary practice and education Interdisciplinary

Creativity in Practice & Education Award
Established by the NAP Council to recognize and encourage interdisciplinary team programs/projects/models which focus on the improvement of health care, this award is given periodically
