NAPT Announces 2012 Open Call

for Media Makers

"First and foremost, NAPT is looking for compelling Native stories. Priority will be given to projects intended for the series NATIVE WORD: STORIES PAST & PRESENT," commented NAPT Assistant Director Georgiana Lee (Navajo).

 

The NAPT Public Media Content Fund will award support to video projects with significant Native involvement--particularly projects that profile Native American leaders for our series NATIVE WORD: STORIES PAST & PRESENT.

Request for Stories: Growing Native

native american film festivalNAPT seeks stories that can be included in the seven-part series, Growing Native, which will focus on reclaiming traditional knowledge and food ways to address critical issues of health and wellness, the enviornment and human rights.

 

Segments intended for Growing Native will be five to fifteen-minutes in length, and will also be part of rich, web-based interactive media.  

 

Growing Native will focus on Tribes, stories and events from seven geographic regions, including the Northwest, Southwest, Southern Plains/Oklahoma, Northeast, Southeast, Northern Plains/Canada and Alaska. Across the country, Native people are regaining their health and strength through the recovery and revitalization of traditional knowledge systems of land, language, traditional arts and health.

Great Plains Art Museum Call for Artists

The Great Plains Art Museum announces a juried exhibition focusing on Native American culture in the Great Plains region. Founded in 1980, the Great Plains Art Museum is home to a large collection of historical and contemporary works by Native North American artists. The Museum regularly hosts exhibitions that focus on contemporary Native identity as well as historical Native issues.

The program funds film projects by and about Indigenous and underrepresented minority-culture filmmakers year-round and from all reaches of the globe. The program seeks filmmakers who bring their lives and communities to light through first-person storytelling. This grant is open to Indigenous and underrepresented minority-culture filmmakers, as well as filmmakers who can demonstrate that they have been designated by Indigenous or minority communities to tell their story.

 PBS Online Film Festival to Feature

20 Short Films

The Film Festival Begins February 27!

 

 

PBS announced that it will launch its first Online Film Festival and showcase of 20 short films from independent filmmakers. The Festival, featuring award-winning films with a wide-array of styles, perspectives and subject matter, will run February 27 through March 30 and can be accessed via the PBS website and the PBS YouTube channel.

 Request for Native American Short Film for Use on PBS Pilot

The Futuro Media Group in conjunction with NAPT is requesting short (very short) independent film submissions to air as part of a PBS pilot called "America by the Numbers." The pilot episode is called "Do It Yourself (DIY) Democracy."
