NAPT's Multimedia Fellowship
The NAPT Multimedia Fellowship Program is bringing free news content to media outlets such as Indian Country Today.
Two full-time Native American journalists--Gemma Givens (Cakchiquel-Mayan and Yaqui) and Kiera Lasiloo (Zuni and Cochiti Pueblo)--wrote and produced multimedia projects about national Native American issues. With major funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the project's purpose is to increase the quantity and quality of multimedia reporting on Native news.
"As one of the first participants of the NAPT Multimedia Fellowship, I've had a great experience," said Lasiloo. "NAPT has provided me an inviting environment in which to work, as well as knowledgeable mentors to help me create stories about and for Native American people. The Fellowship has also provided me with a great source of knowledge and confidence in my abilities as a multimedia producer."
"We are truth tellers, and NAPT has helped empower me by giving me agency to articulate and amplify my community's stories," said Givens.
The project will continue this coming academic year as the two multimedia fellows continue hoaning their skills by producing Native multimedia projects. Early next year, NAPT will open more fellowship opportunities.
NAPT has provided you with the opportunity to be some of the first people to see these multimedia projects.
