Chapter Events
Ventura County:

Silicon Valley:  Crystal Chair Award Gala on March 20
Chapter News
On February 20, the Silicon Valley Chapter held an exclusive networking mixer event with Adobe Systems by taking a unique look into Adobe's  progressive culture. Guest speaker Donna Morris, who's rallying cry is "disrupt or be disrupted," noted that Adobe challenges everyone in the organization to Make it an Experience. The ability to deliver these experiences to customers starts with employees.

Donna shared Adobe's journey to foster a culture where employees understand the value of creating great experiences, and the opportunities they have to influence the customer experience.

Silicon Valley Chapter events, hosted by companies such as Adobe, are always a ton of fun, high profile, and very well attended. Adobe Systems, Inc. is a premier Silicon Valley enterprise and NAWBO-SV was honored to network with them.

Why I'm excited to go
I had my first real NAWBO "aha" experience in 2011 when as a relatively new NAWBO member I joined several Sacramento Valley members at the NAWBO conference in San Diego. We shared a condo and had some great laughs together over coffee in the mornings and glasses of wine in the evenings. It was then that I first got the vision for myself to be a more effective leader of my company. I networked with women who became mentors to me and met role models for the future leader I wanted to become.

That turning point took us from a $700,000 company to an $7.9 million company over the next five years, and from a staff of 3 to a true team of 14 whom I am privileged to lead. It was also a powerful team building experience for our chapter and led to me stepping up as president a couple of years later. Three of that original group are still on the board together seven years later!

2. Exciting News

We have great news to share! NAWBO California has named two amazing NAWBO leaders to the Board as part of our succession plan for the coming two years. They are:

Hilary Lentini, as VP and who will be President-Elect for 2018-19. Hilary is Past President of the Los Angeles Chapter and was instrumental in its continued growth and raising the bar for professionalism among large NAWBO chapters. Her marketing experience and insights are already helping elevate the visibility of NAWBO statewide!

Dr. Theresa Ashby, as VP in 2018-19 and President-Elect in 2019-20. Theresa is current President of the Orange County chapter. I recently had the pleasure of attending their monthly meeting, and WOW doesn't begin to describe it! Theresa and her team really pull out all the stops! I am excited for the energy and creativity she will bring us all.

NAWBO California exists to supports the 10 NAWBO chapters in California (plus Bakersfield, in formation). All board members are volunteers; most are past-presidents of NAWBO local chapters. We help the chapters by better serve the 1.6 million women business owners across California by
  • Increasing NAWBO's visibility across the state
  • Providing public policy and leadership and advocacy training
  • Increasing corporate sponsorship support for NAWBO CA and our chapters
  • Bringing business skills training and statewide mentorship and networking opportunities through our annual Propel Your Business conference
  • Chapter board support, including individual coaching and monthly support for public policy and corporate sponsorship development
Yours,

Anne Staines
