TRANSPORTATION FUNDING
N.C. Transportation Secretary Jim Trogdon plans to ask lawmakers to create a new borrowing mechanism to fund transportation construction projects -- a move he says will help speed up much-needed road projects. Trogdon unveiled the proposal he calls "Build NC" earlier this month at a House transportation committee meeting..

ZATEZALO WANTS MSHA TO
REPRESENT ALL OPERATIONS
MSHA Administrator  David Zatezalo  outlined priorities for the agency during a hearing of the House Subcommittee on Workforce Protections on Feb. 6. “Safety remains a major priority for this committee,” said Chairman Bradley Byrne, R-Ala. “We ask so much of these hardworking Americans, and vital policies are in place to provide them with the safest environment possible.”
CONGRESS REACHES
BUDGET COMPROMISE
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) reached a budget deal offered as an amendment to the continuing resolution package the U.S. House of Representatives passed on February 6th.

DODGE MOMENTUM INDEX
The Dodge Momentum Index dropped 5.1% in January to 143.7 (2000=100) from the revised December reading of 151.5. The Momentum Index is a monthly measure of the first (or initial) report for nonresidential building projects in planning, which have been shown to lead construction spending for nonresidential buildings by a full year.

President Trump released his infrastructure plan last week. Here are a few highlights from the plan. 

NCDOT SURVEY
Nearly everyone has an opinion about the quality and needs of the transportation system, whether the focus is on improvements to the nearest interstate, the convenience of airport services or ready access to greenways and bike lanes. So, state officials are giving the public a chance to rate the job that the North Carolina Department of Transportation is doing at keeping things moving and preparing for an even faster-paced future.

ASPHALT, CONCRETE, & AGGREGATE CLASS
On January 31, NCAA held its first Introductory Class for Asphalt, Concrete, and Aggregates to an overflow room. The class was designed for personnel that didn’t need to attend NCDOT certification classes but need a basic understanding of NCDOT standards and sampling for our products and the impact that our materials have on asphalt and concrete.

AGGREGATE SUMMITS
This spring NCAA and NCDOT will again be jointly hosting three Aggregate Summits. These summits have been a great opportunity for NCAA and NCDOT to discuss current issues related to the aggregate industry.
