May is Stroke Awareness Month and below is some useful information from the CDC like what's your risk, how to recognize the symptoms, and treatment options.

As a reminder, the NCFlex Critical Illness Plan pays a benefit due to a diagnosis, such as a stroke. If you are not already enrolled, you can elect coverage during annual enrollment each year (October).
NCFlex Q&A

NCFlex's website www.ncflex.org has a lot of useful information, but we also receive questions on items that may not always be easy to locate. Below are answers to some common questions we've recently received.
Where do I get cards and how do I view my benefits?

In our March edition of the NCFlex newsletter we had an article called "ID Cards - who, what, where?" which goes over the details of ID cards for each plan.

To view your personal benefit details, you can visit eEnroll for a list of your State Health Plan and NCFlex benefits, or click on the links below to visit the individual vendor portals for claim details and other plan information.

I have the Accident Plan. How do I file a claim?

Participants call LifeHelp at 1-877-464-5111. After some basic information is collected, a claim form is sent directly to the participant either via email or mail. The claim form includes most of the information (including the employer form) completed, leaving only a few things left for the participant to add.

The participant completes the forms, attaches any supporting documentation, and sends to Voya’s claims department per the information on the form (fax, mail, or upload online). If an employee bypasses calling LifeHelp and completes a form found online and submits, the employer form will be missing and the claim filing may take longer.
Can I make changes to my plans outside of annual enrollment?

NCFlex is governed by Section 125 of the Internal Revenue Code (IRS). As such, changes outside of annual enrollment can only be made if you experience a qualifying life event (QLE), such as marriage, birth, adoption, or divorce.

Changes must be made within 30 days of a QLE and can be done through eEnroll or by calling the enrollment support line at 1-855-859-0966. Click on the resources below to learn more about QLEs and what documentation may be required by NCFlex and/or the State Health Plan.
Dependent Day Care FSA and Elder Care

We've recently received inquiries for more information on how the DDCFSA account can be used for elder care. The NCFlex guide touches on the topic, but the 2017 IRS Publication 503 offers more details about this benefit and how it can be used.

Specifically, page 7 of the publication mentions care outside of the home and specifies that the qualifying dependent must regularly spend at least eight hours each day in the participant's home. See below for a link to the publication.
