President's Corner with Brieann Staker
I hope you all are as excited for our Focus on the FAR seminar as I am. This is the Chapter's all-day learning and networking event. We have a great line up of topics and speakers for the day. If you have not been to one of our FAR events I encourage you to check this one out. We spend time going into depth on a few sections of the FAR, presenting a different FAR section each year. This year we are covering FAR Parts 4, 15, 27, and 31, along with FAR updates closing out the day. The FAR parts we are presenting this year are the Parts suggested by attendees at last year's event. There will also be time for questions, networking, and interacting with other attendees. The FAR event also kicks off the start of our Certification Study group. This is an excellent offering that is free to our members. The study group is a great immersion into the various parts of the CFCM and CPCM to aid in preparing you for the certification exams. If you're interested in learning more about this group contact Taylor Menlove or Matt Gomer. I look forward to seeing you in February!
Upcoming Event: Seminar,  Focus on the FAR
The NCMA Denver Chapter is providing
an all-day seminar, Focus on the FAR, at Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp. in Broomfield.

When:
Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM MST

Where:
Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corp. - 10 Longs Peak Drive, Broomfield, CO 80021

What:
Speakers from AGEISS, Ball Aerospace, Burgess Consulting, Crowell & Moring and Dentons US LLP are confirmed to present the following FAR Parts: Part 4 (Administrative Matters); Part 15 (Part 15 (Cost and Price Analysis); Part 27 (Patents, Data and Copyrights); and Part 31 (Contract Cost Principles and Procedures).  We conclude the day with our annual FAR update.   This seminar also assists those preparing for the certification exam(s) and provides educational credits.

We start the morning with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the seminar at 8:00 a.m. (Continental breakfast and lunch are included).  The cost is $125 for members and $150 for non-members.  Please use the member price if registering five or more attendees from the same company at the same time.

Upcoming Event: The Gray Areas of Unallowable Costs
Please join us for the "The Gray Areas of Unallowable Costs" webinar at Dentons' office in downtown Denver.  To add to the fun, we will be hosting a happy hour during the webinar and the original presenter of the webinar, our own NCMA Chapter Board of Directors member and NCMA Fellow, Melanie Burgess, will be present for a live in-person Q&A session.  The webinar will explore FAR Part 31's cost principles -- experience tells us that the line between the costs that DCAA determines to be allowable and the costs it determines to be unallowable are very often unclear.  Making an informed determination and providing adequate support for costs may be exactly what you need for DCAA to determine your costs are allowable.  This webinar will help you learn more about making these determinations and providing sufficient support.

The fee for this event is $20.  You will receive 1.5 CPEs for attending the webinar.  This is a great chance to meet new members, enjoy a drink with friends, learn more about cost allowability and have live access to the speaker.  (Note that parking is available for $5 under the building if entering after 5:01 p.m.)
