Fall2015Fall 2015 - Access Check and Enrollment Options

We are nearing the end of our first week. It is time to check on your students progress in their online course. Please take time to ensure that your students can log in and access their courses. We just posted a no-show report in the registration system that indicates which students have not logged in yet. This is good data to determine who needs early help.

Please remember that we do not issues usernames and passwords to students. That must come from the school. This link shows how to retrieve students' usernames and passwords from our registration system.

Be sure that students are aware that we have courses in three different platforms: Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas .  Many students who have courses in Blackboard are trying to log in to Moodle, and their passwords will not work on that platform.

Students can check which platform their classes are in on our log-in page. Have them scroll down this page to check:

NCVPS is now in its late add period. ELAs can still register students in our registration system through September 4. That is our tenth day of class.

Please note that students who start late will have work that they need to catch up on, and they may need extra support from the school in getting started. Our teachers are prepared for late starters, however!  They are aware that students can be added to their classes through September 4, and they will work with students to help them catch up.

Also, note that once a student is registered, it may take up to two business days before the student can access his or her course. As long as the registration system says "enrolled," or "enrollment pending," or "enrollment in process," the student has a definite seat in the course, and you do not have to open a ticket if the student does not have immediate access. If the student can't log in after two days, then either the student or the ELA can open a ticket with the support center (but just one person, please).

Late Adds: We will continue to enroll through Friday, Sept. 4, our 10th day of class.

Credit Recovery: Credit recovery enrollment will remain open until November 25, which is the end of our third marking period. Schools can continue to enroll in credit recovery courses that have open seats.

OCS: Schools can continue to enroll in existing OCS sections throughout the semester. We cannot open new OCS sections after Sept. 4. See the note below on OCS courses that are at section capacity.

1/2 Credit Health Courses: Registration for our 2nd 9-week health courses will remain open until October 26.

Transfer Students: After Sept. 4, we will begin accepting transfers for students who meet our transfer criteria. Transfer students must already be enrolled in a traditional course at the school with an instructor AND have a grade to transfer in with. We will have more details on this next week.

4th Day of Class - August 27

Check the Day 3 Student Status (No-Show) Report in the registration system. This report is an early warning notice that identifies students who have not logged into their courses by Day 3.

Make contact with the parents and students who have not logged in. Determine the next steps for them. If you confirm that the student is not going to take the course, please drop them from the course in the registration system. This will help other students move off the waitlist.

8th Day of Class - September 2

Check the Day 7 Student Status Report. This report will be posted in the registration system. Students who have not logged in by Day 7 and submitted their first assignment will be identified in this report. This is our last notice of inactive students before the Day 10 drop deadline.

If you confirm that the student is not going to take the course, please drop him or her from the course in the registration system. This will help other students move off the waitlist. Also, after Day 10, a student's enrollment will count in your allotment totals.

Please note that NCVPS will no longer administratively drop students who have not logged in.

10th Day of Class - September 4

This is the last day to add students and the last day for a student to drop a course(s) without penalty.  Remember that the NCVPS teacher cannot drop the student. The ELA must drop the student in the registration system. Students on the roster after Day 10 will receive a grade and their enrollment will count in your allotment total.

Make contact with your testing coordinator to see when you need to order EOC/CTE tests for your students enrolled in courses with state mandated EOC/CTEs.

Getting Started for Schools

If you are new to the e-Learning advisor role or if it has been awhile since you registered students with us, please visit our Getting Started for Schools web page. You will find valuable insights and tips for registering and having a successful e-learning program at your school.

Our student checklist has moved! It used to be in a Google doc, but now you can find our Getting Started for Students web page at this link.

This list shows the courses  that are at capacity.

Our instructional directors are moving students off waitlists in courses that are not at capacity. Students may be on a waitlist for 1-2 days at this point as our directors make room for them in our courses.

We have a few courses that are approaching capacity for Fall 2015. Courses that are "At Capacity" will not have any new sections opened. The only way that students will move off the waitlist is if a student who is already enrolled in the course drops. See our list of courses that are at capacity and near capacity here.

We have a number of OCS courses for fall that are at section capacity. Schools can still add to existing sections, but we are not able to create new sections for the following OCS courses:

OCS English 2
OCS Applied Science

OCS American History 2

OCS English 3

OCS LDME and Math 1

OCS Financial Management

OCS American History 1

OCS Introduction to Math

OCS English 1

OCS English 4

OpeningTicketOpening a Ticket with the Virtual Support Center

When opening a ticket with the virtual support center, please always include the following:
  • Student's first & last name
  • PowerSchool ID number (This will help ensure we have the correct student)
  • School name (full name, i.e. Eastern Mills High School, not EMHS)
  • Course name - including specific section, i.e. CourseSec01Spring15.
If you need a new student account for a student who is new to PowerSchool (not just transferring schools), include the following:
  • Your full school name (i.e. Eastern Mills High School, not EMHS)
  • The student's first and last name
  • The student's PowerSchool ID number
  • The student's email address
  • The student's phone number (the contact number this will be in PowerSchool)
  • Does the student have an IEP? Yes/No
  • Does the student have a 504 Plan? Yes/No

Replying to a Support Center Ticket

After you submit a ticket to the Virtual Support Center, you will receive a ticket confirmation and resolution via email. To expedite your resolution, please do not reply to the email. The email will have a link in it for your response. Please click on that link (see below).

This will put the ticket right back in the queue of the person who is working on your ticket. If you reply to the email, then that will have to be manually put into the ticket, and that can delay the process by several hours.

Password Resets

If students have their correct email addresses in the registration system (this is important for a number of reasons), then they can use the password-reset feature on the Blackboard, Moodle, and Canvas login pages.

JAVA and Flash Updates

Please update your Java to Version Java 8, Update 51. Go to the link below and follow the instructions there.

http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Please go to the following link to update Adobe Flash Player to the latest Version 18.0.0.209 http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Blackboard Instant Messaging (BBIM)

Students will need to click on the BBIM link in their class and create an ID and password that they will remember. NCVPS does not issue BBIM logins nor do we store this information.
Student Email Confirmations in Moodle and Blackboard

If a student's e-mail is missing or shows pleaseadd@ncvps - the student will not receive important e-mails from their teachers.
Please have students confirm/update their email information by following these steps:

In Moodle:
  • Navigate to Administration
  • My Profile settings
  • Edit Profile
  • Verify or update e-mail
  • Scroll to bottom and "Update Profile"
In Blackboard:
  • Click on students name in the upper right side of your BB course
  • Click on setting
  • Click on Personal Information
  • Click on Edit Personal Information to update e-mail
  • Scroll to bottom and Submit

Many students visit our homepage to log in to their courses. It is a best practice to bookmark the actual login pages for both Moodle and Blackboard. Please have students and lab facilitators bookmark the following pages:

In addition, many school administrators visit our homepage to log in to our registration system or Virtual Support Center. Please bookmark both of these pages in your web browser:

GradeReportingGrade Reporting

Progress reports will be posted each week during the summer session in the NCVPS registration system. The only weighted grade report will be the final grade report posted on August 13.

Our grade reports are weighted grades similar to school report cards.

See how your students are progressing! We post progress reports every two weeks in the registration system.

Follow this link to see the details on this progress report.

NCVPS posts student status reports after the third and seventh days of class. These reports indicate if students have logged in or not to their NCVPS courses. These reports are early warning indicators for schools.
