CAS Arts Awards
The Connecticut Association of Schools Arts Awards banquet took place on Tuesday, April 3 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. Olivia Keden '17 and Jordan Crawford '17 were the recipients from Notre Dame.  They were joined by family members and by Ms. Hong, Mr. Chuba, and Mr. St.Onge. Congratulations to Liv and Jordan for receiving this recognition of their artistic accomplishments!

What's New in the Classroom? 
Students in Mr. Guerrera's freshmen classes recently completed presentations on European Society during the Middle Ages. Projects included creation of a sign to hang outside of a place of business, recruitment poster for Christian or Muslim army for the Crusades and a timeline for each of the Crusades.

Also, over the upcoming month, students will be researching world cultures of their choice and presenting their findings to the class. Topics may include China, Africa, India, the Middle East and the America's.

Senior religion classes have been reviewing for the ACRE this week. They will be taking the exam after vacation and are expected to study their areas of weakness on their own.
Catholic Service Corp

Members of the Catholic Service Corp were invited to attend the Spring service day at St. Margaret Shrine with several other schools and parishes in the diocese.  Students helped clean up the grounds and plant for the upcoming season. ND participants included  Francesca Olveida, Daviann Cisneros, Areli Anderson, Lissa Garcia, Linda Pham, Tyler Ouelette, and Christina Cheeseman.


Campus Ministry Easter Party

Campus Ministry sponsored our annual Easter Party  on Wednesday.  This year's special guests were the preschool children from the Daughters of Charity in Bridgeport.  Students were treated to an Easter egg hunt, lunch and snacks, crafts, games, and dance time with  Mrs. Hong's  period F dance class.  Thanks to alum

Alumni Named to the 2017 USA Men's National Deaf Ice Hockey Team 
Peter '10 and Garrett Gintoli '14 have been named to the 2017 USA Men's National Deaf Ice Hockey Team.  Peter has been named as Captain of the team and is currently playing minor pro hockey with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League.  He graduated from Salve Regina University in 2016.   Garrett completed two years with the Valley Jr. Warriors of the Eastern Hockey League and will attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the Fall. This will be Peter's 4th International event and Garrett's 3rd.  They were both part of the 2015 Bronze Medal Deaf Olympic team. Click here to read the press release. Student Update
Charlie Strong T-shirt Fundraiser
Charlie Capalbo, a former ND student, was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoblastic Lymphoma T-cell Stage 3. Charlie attended Notre Dame for his freshmen and sophomore years. In an effort to support our beloved friend Charlie and his fight against cancer, a Charlie Strong t-shirt fundraiser has begun. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be directly donated to Charlie and his family. Tickets for the Notre Dame Drama Club's Spring Musical,  Les Miserables: School Edition are now available for purchase at our show's website.  Click here to visit.  Advance tickets are not available at the SHU Box Office. The performances are on  May 5th and 6th at the Sacred Heart University Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts.  All ticket and show information can be found at the website.  There is a small processing fee that will be added to the price of each ticket order.  This processing fee covers the cost of our contract with our partner company, and the rest of the ticket price goes directly to the Notre Dame Drama Club.  Thank you for your support!  Please contact Mr. St.Onge at  jstonge@notredame.org with any questions. 

The Connecticut Writing Project
The Connecticut Writing Project offers Summer Writing Labs for high school students at Fairfield University.  These week-long, high-quality workshops focus on topics such as novel writing, sports journalism, and the college essay. SHU Journey - Apply by May 1
Current Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors are invited to apply for a very unique summer experience - the SHU Journey. This is a six day residential experience of faith education, self-discovery, small group discussion, community services, prayer and liturgy, music ministry, keynote speakers and fun activities for high school youth. The 2017 program will take place between 
June 25 and 30  on the Sacred Heart University campus. There are no costs for each of the 24 selected students and each student will also receive a $500 scholarship for participating. To apply for the program or to learn more, click here.

NCYC
Join Bishop Caggiano and more than 23,000 young people from around the country at the National Catholic Youth Conference in Indianpaolis, IN this November. The Diocese of Bridgeport will be traveling together as a group. The cost is $575 per person. This includes conference registration, bus transportation, hotel accommodations, and t-shirts. Parent Association Update
NEW!  Bacon & Brew Fest - Volunteers Needed
We have a new and exciting event coming up and we need your help!  Please consider signing up to volunteer for Bacon & Brew Fest on June 10.  Opportunities include set up the night before, registration, break down and much more!  We are also looking for one or two people to organize a committee to run a Cookoff Contest for bacon inspired dishes. Explore Engineering at UConn
Exploring Engineering  (E2) is a one-week residential summer program for rising juniors and seniors in high school (must be a current  sophomore  or  junior  in  high school during the 2016/2017 school year). Participants work in small groups with faculty and college students to learn what various engineers do in the workplace, learn and demonstrate engineering concepts, and engage in deeper exploration of one engineering discipline by fabricating a discipline-specific device. Congratulations to the following students who were named to the Hearst Connecticut Media All Post Teams:  Emily Rowland (girls' hockey), Noreaga Davis and Tyler Bourne (boys' basketball) and Gabby Joseph (girls' basketball).
Lancer Week in Review
The Gi rls' Lacrosse team opened their season with a tough loss against Bunnell on Wednesday (14-7). Kaitlyn Ciufo '18 scored 6 of the 7 goals for the Lancers.  Also notable for Ciufo - 12 draw controls, 7 draw possessions, and 6 ground balls. Erin O'Brien '18 scored 1 goal, had 1 draw possession, 4 ground balls, and one caused turn over.  Lindsay Salvati '18 had 1 assist, 2 draw possessions, and 3 ground balls. Solid defense came from Captains Delaney O'Keefe '17 and Olivia Keden '17 each with one caused turn over. Emma Sweeney '18 came up huge in net despite the loss with 13 saves. The Lady Lancers take on the Lawmen on Saturday, April 8 at Jonathan Law. 

The Boys' Lacrosse team has begun season play with a 1-1 record. The Lancers played their season opener last weekend at Trinity Catholic and walked away with an 11-6 victory. The attack unit was stellar on the day, lead by Trevor Sabia '17 (3 goals & 2 assists) and Charlie Goodrich '20 (2 goals & 3 assists). Tyler Stein '17 was dominant at the face off X winning 15 of 20 draws while contributing 2 goals and 1 assist. On Tuesday, in their first SWC matchup, the boys dropped an 8-3 decision to Bunnell, with Trevor Sabia chipping in 2 goals on the day. The Lancers lacrosse team will return to play at West Haven (1-1) on Friday at 5:00.

The Softball team won their first 2 games both 23-0. Breana Brown '20 pitched a 1 hitter, striking out 12 in 5 innings against Harding on Monday. Lucy Grant '18 had 3 hits and 7 RBIs including a grand slam. Brown had 2 hits and 3 RBIs and Shelby Nolan '17 had 2 hits.  Tiffany Diao '18 pitched Wednesday's game against Bassik, giving up a lead off infield hit which ended being the only hit of the game, striking out 12 for the Lancers. Lucy Grant had three hits including a grand slam and had a total of 6 RBIs. Micheala Luk '18 had a triple and a 3 run homerun and 4 RBIs. Dayniera Artis '17 had a 3 run home run and 4 RBIs, while Arianna DeNitto '17 had 3 hits.  

The Baseball team opened their season with a 7-1 road win on  Monday against the Harding Presidents.  Pitcher Dillon Higgins '17 picked up the Lancers' first win of the season.  Center fielder  Brandon White '16 went 3-5 with a run scored, third baseman Bob Karosy '17 went 2-4, left fielder Austin Allen '17 went 1-2 with 2 RBI, right fielder Mike Bevino '16 went 1-1 with 3 runs scored, Jeremy Tierney '17 pitched in relief. 

The Boys' Golf team opened up with a 177-206 loss to Imaculate High School on the road at Richter Park.
