Roller Coaster Physics STEM Design Challenge
Students in Mrs. Almeida's Honors Integrated Science classes were challenged to demonstrate their knowledge of Newton's Laws of Motion and the Engineering Design Process by researching, designing, building and testing model roller coasters to be both "thrilling" and "safe". The designs included loops, hills, curves and jumps! After overcoming many obstacles in the building process, the students calculated speed, acceleration, potential and kinetic energy, and the force of the "cart" moving along the track. Each team member wrote a research/conclusion paper to communicate the results of their project and teams demonstrated their working models to the class.
